REPO’s developers shared their upcoming plans for the game, which includes a "duck bucket" to keep the duck from killing players. Read to learn more about their future updates and what Lethal Company’s creator thinks about the game.
REPO’s First Update Details
Duck Bucket To Fend Off The Duck
REPO’s first update will give players a new map and a "duck bucket" to help get rid of the duck. Semiwork Studios posted a video on YouTube on March 15 regarding their future updates for the game.
REPO is an online co-op horror game with up to 6 players that lets the team extract and retrieve items carefully as the game is set in a horror-filled world. During the game, players may find themselves being followed by The Apex Predator, a small yellow duck that when damaged or picked up, will transform into a horrifying monster that attacks players for 10 seconds before returning to normal.
The developers will soon add a "duck bucket" to trap the pesky little duck and stop it from following players around. This also helps players to keep their teammates from accidentally activating the duck’s monster mode. Additionally, new facial expressions and other quality-of-life improvements will be available for the next update.
New Map Called "The Museum" and Public Lobbies
Semiwork Studios have also announced that there will be an upcoming map called "The Museum." According to them, the Museum will be a level to test out the players’ parkour skills. Furthermore, extraction points will show a visible border to indicate whether the loot is within the boundary for extraction.
They are also working on public lobbies as they have revealed that they are considering everything from the player feedback they received. "As an overwhelming majority seems fine with matchmaking where you can either host public or private, together with a kick button, that's what we'll be looking into. And for the sake of transparency, adding a kick button might sound like something very simple, but it involves server coding, which is a whole new area for us," the developers said.
However, Semiwork Studios admitted that implementing this would be difficult, so fans can expect that this update may come later than anticipated.
Lethal Company Creator’s Advice on REPO
Since its release in February, fans have compared REPO to the hit online co-op horror game Lethal Company due to its similarities in mechanics and themes. In a Twitter (X) post on March 15, Lethal Company creator Zeekers gave his fair criticism of the game, pointing out things that can be improved by the developers in future updates.
The post read, "REPO is fun. At first I thought I didn't like it since I felt so slow (and voice chat range is too small!) But everyone in the group working together to move a grand piano through a cramped old mansion without scraping it--that is like the most funny objective for a horror game." He continued in the comments section and stated, "I'll probably post more thoughts on Patreon, but I think #1. Voice chat range needs increased, and the muffling is too much. #2. The levels with vast open space don't suit the game's design very well (similarly to Phasmophobia); it shines most in the cramped mansion layout."
Zeekerss also replied to one of the comments about enemies sneaking up on players without sound, making it difficult for them to be detected. He said, "Yeah, there also needs to be an in-game way to learn about how enemies work, but I'm sure they're planning that."
R.E.P.O. is the latest viral horror co-op game released exclusively on PC. As of writing, the game currently stands as the 2nd best-selling game on Steam behind Counter-Strike 2. According to SteamDB, it has reached over 230,645 concurrent players, close to Lethal Company’s all-time peak of 240,817 players.
