Pokémon Gold and Silver are a pair of Pokémon games developed by Game Freak, released in 1999 for the Game Boy Color. Released to critical acclaim for its innovative features, the games made their way in the West the following year, with subsequent releases in 2001 in Europe. Pokémon Gold and Silver introduced an in-game time system wherein the current time and day of the week is kept track of using an internal clock and affects the appearances of certain Pokémon and game events. Moreover, Gold and Silver introduced 100 new species of Pokémon, known as Gen 2 Pokémon, such as Pichu, Cleffa, Hoothoot, Chikorita, Umbreon, Ho-Oh, Lugia, and a whole lot more. The game received a 10th anniversary remake for the Nintendo DS in 2009, named Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver.
