Everything We Know About PlayStation State of Play June 2025
Subtle Hints Point at a Potential Final Fantasy Tactics Remake

Fans of Final Fantasy Tactics have reason to be excited—if the internet’s tea leaves are to be believed, the beloved 1997 strategy RPG might be making a grand return. Hopes for a remake have surged following a wave of curious social media activity from both developers and insiders in the lead-up to PlayStation’s June 2025 State of Play.
The speculation kicked off when Yasumi Matsuno, director of the original Final Fantasy Tactics, retweeted PlayStation Japan’s State of Play announcement. Although the retweet was later deleted, fans quickly archived the moment, fueling a fresh wave of anticipation.

The plot thickened when several Square Enix employees—including a senior manager and various regional reps from Latin America—joined in with enthusiastic, animated quote retweets of the same post, suggesting something bigger may be brewing behind the scenes.
Perhaps most tellingly, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, a journalist with a strong track record of accurate industry scoops, added fuel to the fire with a pair of cryptic posts. “I’m just saying, Final Fantasy Tactics is one of the greatest games ever made,” he wrote, followed shortly by a single, loaded word: “Remaster.”
While nothing is confirmed yet, the signals are aligning—and if Square Enix is ready to revisit Ivalice, fans may finally get the remake they’ve been dreaming of for decades.
Updates for PlayStation’s Biggest Upcoming Titles are Very Likely
While speculation continues to swirl around surprise reveals, there’s a growing expectation that PlayStation’s upcoming June 2025 State of Play will also deliver long-overdue updates on several major titles already in development.
At the top of the list are Gears of War: Reloaded and Ghost of Yōtei—both high-profile announcements that have yet to receive full gameplay breakdowns or follow-up trailers since their initial reveals. With hype still simmering, fans are eager for a deeper look at what these titles actually bring to the table.
Then there are the games that have been absent for far longer. Marvel’s Wolverine, originally revealed to great fanfare, has remained in the shadows as Marvel’s other mainline projects have taken center stage. Likewise, Judas, the enigmatic narrative-driven shooter from BioShock creator Ken Levine, has been quiet since missing its previously announced March 2025 release window.

What is PlayStation State of Play?

PlayStation State of Play is a regular program by Sony that aims to deliver updates on upcoming and recently released games, as well as hardware and other PlayStation-related news. It is their showcase event, similar to Nintendo Direct and Xbox Developer Direct, that is pre-recorded and streamed online, featuring game trailers, developer insights, and sometimes surprise announcements.
There is no strict schedule for PlayStation State of Play showcases. It can happen multiple times a year, depending on whether Sony has anything major to share with the gaming community, whether it’s about their own IPs, indies, or other big updates.
