Formerly known as Project Q, the device features an 8-inch LCD screen, full HD 1080p display, and resolution at 60 frames per second (fps). Key features of the DualSense wireless controller, such as adaptive triggers and haptic feedback, are incorporated into the Portal and bring the PS5 console experience in a portable format.

"PlayStation Portal is the perfect device for gamers in households where they might need to share their living room TV or simply want to play PS5 games in another room of the house," Sony stated in today's announcement of the PlayStation Portal's Southeast Asian release. "PlayStation Portal will connect remotely to your PS5 over Wi-Fi, so you’ll be able to swiftly jump from playing on your PS5 to your PlayStation Portal."

One of the PlayStation Portal's features is the option to connect to a user's PS5 console over Wi-Fi which enables seamless transitioning between TV and handheld play. This feature is particularly appealing, however users have reported a less-than-stellar performance of the feature. As noted by Sony, PlayStation Portal Remote Player requires broadband internet Wi-Fi with at least 5Mbps for use.

Recently, Sony addressed connectivity issues by rolling out a major update for the PlayStation Portal, allowing users to connect to public Wi-Fi networks. Initially, the device could only connect to slower 2.4GHz bands, which led to suboptimal speeds for remote play. Sony released Update 3.0.1 a couple days ago and allowed the PlayStation Portal to connect to certain 5GHz networks.

PlayStation Portal users on social media have reported that the update has resulted in more stable connections. "I’m the biggest portal hater, but mine is playing much much better so far," one user even said.
