In line with Sony's corporate strategy meeting on Thursday, where the company unveiled its "Creative Entertainment Vision" strategy, Head of PlayStation Productions Asad Qizilbash shared his vision for the future of gaming in an interview by Sony. Qizilbash said future games in the next decade will have "more evocative storytelling," and that the "focus is going to shift from graphics or visuals to immersive narratives." He noted that as technology and artificial intelligence (AI) continue to evolve, games will increasingly deliver such personalized experiences tailored to individual players.

"In terms of gaming’s future, I envision games becoming more personalized due to advances in technology and AI, enabling customized experiences for each player," Qizilbash stated. "Moreover, technological advancements will enhance emotional depth in games by allowing characters to be much more emotive and expressive, fostering more evocative storytelling."

Qizilbash further elaborated, "The focus is going to shift from graphics or visuals to immersive narratives that resonate long after the controller is set down. Regarding PlayStation's role in this evolution, I see it as a destination defined by community and a commitment to quality, unexpected, and memorable experiences."

Advancements in AI are expected to play a crucial role in this shift and "Sony is uniquely positioned to facilitate that," said the PS exec. Qizilbash highlighted how non-player characters (NPCs) could interact with players based on their actions, creating a more personalized and engaging experience. This personalization is important to Gen Z and Gen Alpha players, "who are the first generations that grew up digitally and are looking for personalization across everything," he said.

"Advancements in AI will create more personalized experiences and meaningful stories for consumers," Qizilbash said. "I believe technology will democratize storytelling, making it more accessible and inexpensive for creators, and Sony is uniquely positioned to facilitate that. With the level of fidelity in video games now, there's an opportunity to repurpose assets from games for animation and live-action films."

PlayStation Shows Futuristic Controller

During the strategy meeting, Sony introduced a futuristic PlayStation controller in a new video. Though, it seemed to serve more as part of meeting collaterals than a confirmation of an actual or in-development product. Nevertheless, the futuristic PS controller was shown for a couple of seconds, completely overhauled and re-designed.

The annual event serves to outline Sony's vision for integrating creativity and technology over the next decade. Sony's Creative Entertainment Vision includes three key phases:

⚫︎ Harnessing technology to unleash the creativity of creators around the world, transcending physical, virtual and time dimensions.
⚫︎ Connecting diverse people and values across boundaries to foster vibrant communities.
⚫︎ Together with creators, creating exciting experiences rich in narrative that go beyond imagination, and spreading them as new touchpoints for "Kando," Sony's core philosophy pertaining to the power of emotional connection, around the world.
