YouTuber ToastedShoes has returned with a “legally distinct pocket creatures” Mod for Palworld a week after his Palworld Pokemon Mod was taken down. Read on to learn about the mod’s contents and ToastedShoes’ previous run-in with Nintendo.
YouTuber Unveils "Legally Distinct Pocket Creatures" Mod for Palworld
Australian YouTuber and resident mod developer ToastedShoes has resurfaced with a new mod for Palworld that replaces the game's titular Pals with "legally distinct" and "legit copyright free" pocket creatures.
The aptly named "legally-distinct pocket creatures into Palworld Mod Pack" seems to be ToastedShoes' clap back against Nintendo, who took down his previous – and evidently copyright-infringing – attempt at adding Pokemon into Palworld.
ToastedShoes called the mod pack a parody of Pokemon in its description on Nexus Mods, although – if the video showcase of the mod pack posted on his YouTube channel is any indication – it also seems to be somewhat of a gag to show the ridiculousness of Nintendo’s swift rebuttal.
The mod pack features "your favourite original pocket creatures" such as Braided Sheep, Floral Deer, Floral Raptor, Blue Penguin, Yellow Rat, and everyone’s favorite chicken-themed creature, Fat Cock.
The mod pack also replaces the player character with a custom character model designed to look like ToastedShoes himself wearing a "red and white cap". The last major cosmetic change the mod pack provides is for the Palsphere, which has been changed into a nondescript Jar.
ToastedShoes' Previous Run-in with Nintendo
As alluded to before, ToastedShoes had a previous run-in with Nintendo when he announced the release of a Pokemon mod for Palworld. The mod’s upcoming release was announced through Twitter (X) and was issued a DMCA strike by the end of the day.
The Pokemon Company itself soon responded, confirming its intent to "investigate and take appropriate measures" regarding anything that may infringe on its copyright. It’s unlikely that this statement was alluding to this mod in particular, though Nexus Mods – the mod hosting platform that the mod was supposed to be released on – did confirm that it will no longer host Pokemon-themed mods for Palworld moving forward.
Despite the drama, Palworld continues to be a smash hit for millions of people across the world. Palworld developer Pocketpair has recently promised to tackle cheaters on the game’s servers, which has reached 2 million concurrent players from Steam alone.
