The Triple-i Initiative 2024 streamed on April 10 and spotlighted games storming the industry's indie scene in the 45-minute broadcast. The showcase unveiled a slew of new titles, crossover collaborations, and exciting announcements. From well-known developers to up-and-coming studios, here are some of the biggest announcements at The Triple-i Initiative 2024.
The Rogue Prince of Persia
Evil Empire, known for its work on the action-platformer roguelike Dead Cells, revealed its latest game in collaboration with Ubisoft, The Rogue Prince of Persia. Infused with a flair of Dead Cells, The Rogue Prince of Persia features rogue-lite and action-platformer gameplay.
Taking place in a vivacious, colorful rendering of Persia, players take on the role of the titular Prince as he saves the capital city from a Hun invasion. Players will tackle levels that reshuffle every run, with regenerated enemy placements, treasures, and platforming challenges.
The Rogue Prince of Persia comes to Steam Early Access on May 14.
Risk of Rain 2 Devotion Update feat. Dead Cells
Hit roguelike Risk of Rain 2 announced a crossover collaboration with Dead Cells as part of the game's upcoming free update, the Devotion Update. With Dead Cells' The Prisoner joining the roster of Survivors in Risk of Rain 2 as a free Alt Skin for the Mercenary, the update new enemies, and a new map, Verdant Falls.
The update also introduces two new Artifacts: the Artifact of Devotion, which allows players to cultivate Lemurians by replacing drones with eggs, and the Artifact of Delusion, which allows players to re-open all chests after a teleporter event.
While no official release date was revealed, Risk of Rain 2 Devotion Update will come to all current platforms of the game.
Slay the Spire 2
Beloved deckbuilding roguelike Slay the Spire announced it is getting a sequel, Slay the Spire 2, five years after its official release. Slay the Spire 2 promises to deliver an all-new adventure with strategic card game gameplay, captivating visuals, and new features, as it is rebuilt from the ground up on a new engine.
In Slay the Spire 2, players craft their own unique deck of cards, encounter bizarre creatures, and discover relics of immense power as they face friends and foes in The Spire. Among the exciting new features is a new class called the Necrobinder, "a wandering lich who seeks to bind the forgotten corpse."
Slay the Spire 2 launches into Early Access for PC on Steam in 2025.
Vampire Survivors Operation Guns DLC feat. Contra
Vampire Survivors, a well-regarded shoot 'em up roguelike in the scene, announced that it has teamed up with Konami to bring the run-and-gun series classic, Contra, in a new DLC.
Operation Guns DLC features:
⚫︎ 11 characters from across the Contra series, with a possible secret 12th character teased
⚫︎ 22 new weapons featuring guns, guns, and guns
⚫︎ 1 Large Stage, fittingly called NeoGaluga, as well as a Bonus Stage
⚫︎ 30 in-game unlocks, and 6 Chapters Adventure.
⚫︎ 13 classic Contra tracks, along with 6 remixes
On top of that, Vampire Survivors studio Poncle announced that the game is coming to the PS4 and PS5 this summer. Priced at $2.5, Vampire Survivors: Operation Guns DLC will release on May 9 for the Switch, PC, Xbox consoles, and mobile, with a later date for the PS.
Palworld - Arena Teaser
Palworld makers Pocketpair unveiled a teaser for its hotly anticipated Arena PvP mode. Officially dubbed as the Pal Arena, it is scheduled to debut in Palworld in 2024. In the Pal Arena, players will have the opportunity to assert dominance and demonstrate their skills as they team with their Pals and face off against fellow players and their own army of Pals.
