Palworld reaches 19 million players across Steam and Xbox in just less than two weeks of release. Read here to learn more about this and how the numbers compare to Pokemon games.
Palworld Reaches 19 Million Users Worldwide
Palworld Becomes Top Game on Steam and Xbox Game Pass
Palworld announced on Twitter (X) that they've achieved a milestone of 12 million copies sold on Steam and 7 million players on Xbox and Xbox Game Pass, totaling 19 million units sold worldwide. Not only is Palworld currently the top-selling game on Steam, but it also holds the record for the "Biggest 3rd Party Game Pass Launch Ever" on Xbox consoles and PC.
According to Xbox Wire, Palworld recently "reached a peak of nearly 3 million daily active users making it the most-played game on their platforms at that time."
In a recent interview with Xbox Wire, Pocketpair's CEO, Takuro Mizobe, expressed enthusiasm about the overwhelming response from fans and thanked "the millions of players worldwide enjoying Palworld." Mizobe sees this "as just the beginning for Palworld," emphasizing the importance of ongoing feedback from players to "improve the experience for Pal Tamers on all platforms."
Palworld is currently available in early access on Steam and the Xbox Game Preview program. This allows the developers to stay closely connected with player feedback, actively working on enhancements for the game. Notably, they are taking into account fan requests for cross-play, a feature that, if implemented, could potentially reach bigger numbers.
Palworld Approaches Pokémon Numbers
In just two weeks since its early access debut on PC and Xbox, Palworld has achieved remarkable success, rivaling the sales numbers of Pokemon titles. To put it in perspective, Scarlet and Violet, with over 23.23 million units sold as of September 2023, took several months to reach that milestone.
Palworld's impressive sales surge, coupled with its resemblances to Pokémon, has definitely turned Pokémon’s head. Recently, The Pokémon Company issued a statement regarding its investigations of any infringements on intellectual property rights related to Pokemon. This announcement follows a series of "inquiries regarding another company’s game released in January 2024," and while the game wasn't named, many fans speculate it to be Palworld.
Palworld's massive success highlights the need for the Pokémon franchise to elevate its games, especially considering the ongoing divisiveness among fans with each new generation. You can read our thoughts about what Palworld Can Teach Pokémon below.
