⚫︎ Clovers Studio Head Hideki Kamiya has confessed that the collective reception for Bayonetta 3 including his own experience working on Bayonetta 2, 3, and Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon helped him realize the importance of prequels and sequels. According to Kamiya, the titles that followed the original Bayonetta release "created a gap between what we at Platinum Games wanted to do and what fans expected from the now-firmly established image of Bayonetta."
As Ōkami marks his first attempt at directing a sequel of his own work and the expectations for the sequel are incredibly high, Kamiya is committed to making sure Ōkami exceeds its predecessor. He also added that developing Ōkami 2 has been "extremely fun" for him and the rest of the team.

A Wii port followed in 2008, developed by US-based studio Ready at Dawn. This version replaced the original's analogue stick controls for the Celestial Brush mechanic with the Wii Remote’s pointer functionality.
