Square Enix has delivered an unexpected treat for Xbox heads with the surprise launch of Octopath Traveler 2 on Xbox consoles and Xbox Game Pass.
Octopath Traveler 2 Now Available on Xbox!
Octopath Traveler 1 & 2 Available on Game Pass Until January 2026
Square Enix sneakily brought over the popular JRPG title, Octopath Traveler 2, to Xbox. On Wednesday, Square Enix made a surprise announcement that Octopath Traveler 2 is now available on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles. Additionally, the game is included in the Xbox Game Pass subscription service, available on the service until January 2026.
As with the original, it features 8 different travelers, each with their own stories. You’ll choose one to start with (who will act as party leader) and embark on an adventure around the game’s beautiful HD-2D world.
The original Octopath Traveler, which had been available on Xbox consoles since 2021, also returned to Xbox Game Pass. For those looking to own both titles, an Octopath Traveler 1 & 2 bundle is now available for $74.99 on both Xbox and PS platforms. Both games are also available for Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam. However, it should be noted that the original game has been delisted from the Nintendo eShop.
Initially released in February 2023, Octopath Traveler 2 was available on PS consoles, PC, and Switch, with no mention of an Xbox version at the time. The original Octopath Traveler followed a similar path, starting as a Switch exclusive before expanding to PC and Xbox, and now, unexpectedly, to PS.
Octopath Traveler 2 Gets an Update
Alongside the Xbox release, Square Enix introduced a new free update for Octopath Traveler 2. This update, now available on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and PC, includes an Extra Battle mode. This mode becomes accessible after defeating the final boss and allows players to go up against newly added opponents, including main characters from the original Octopath Traveler.
Additionally, The Break and Boost battle system returns, "deeper and more strategic than ever," announced Square Enix, along with new abilities and unique ‘Latent Powers’ for each hero. As before, it’s about boosting skills and exploiting enemy weaknesses.
Octopath Traveler 1 Discounted on PSN Until June 20
Octopath Traveler is available to purchase digitally today from the PS Store either as a standalone or bundled together with Octopath Traveler 2. PlayStation Plus members who buy the game within the first two weeks of launch can take advantage of a 34% discount, available until June 20, 2024.
