Earlier this year, various gaming publications had cited insider sources asserting that Nintendo had showcased tech demos of its upcoming Switch 2 console to select developers during the Gamescom event in Germany.

Additionally, reports on internal correspondence from the US Federal Trade Commission’s legal battle with Microsoft allegedly hinted at Activision Blizzard being briefed on Nintendo's future console plans in late 2022.

However, during a private earnings call reported by Japanese publication Mainichi, Furukawa refuted these claims, saying they were “inaccurate.” The Nintendo president dismissed the reports of private showcases and briefings as mere rumors circulating mainly on the internet.

“Rumors are circulating mainly on the Internet as if they were public information, but they are inaccurate”, said Furukawa. Moreover, Furukawa addressed the recent speculation surrounding a Nintendo patent filing for a multi-screen device.

He clarified that while the patent information had been made public upon application, it did not necessarily indicate that the technology described in the patent would be integrated into any future Nintendo product. Furukawa emphasized that the filing was a routine procedure, and the existence of a patent did not guarantee its incorporation into a future gaming device.

Furukawa stated that they were aware the patent would be published as public information but “it does not mean that it will be installed in a product.” Furukawa said regarding the reports on the new patent.
