Mortal Kombat 1 Confirms Cross-Play

Cross-Play Coming On February 2024

In the Kombat Kast last December 14, NetherRealm confirmed that cross-play functionality will be coming to Mortal Kombat 1 in February 2024. The announcement was made during a livestream by community manager Tyler Lansdown, who expressed excitement about the upcoming addition. They also specified that the functionality will be available for PS5, Xbox, and PC.

Cross-play has always been part of their post-launch plans since the game’s release. While the announcement was expected, the timing of the implementation was never confirmed or revealed. It then became a subject of anticipation for the MK community.

No Plans For The Switch Again

In the same announcement, they did not mention or reference the Switch version for the cross-play functionality. This raises the possibility that cross-play functionality may not be extended to the Switch platform. This would mean that this is the second time that their Switch port would be excluded from cross-play, as their previous game, MK11, did this as well.

The absence of cross-play for the Nintendo Switch version of Mortal Kombat 1 is seen as a potential disappointment for Switch players who were hoping for the feature to be included. While one of the reasons for the exclusion could be the hardware differences, it is still difficult to justify that a $70 game that advertised the functionality for its platforms is not included as other competitive games were able to implement this.

WiFi Filter, Balance Patch, and More Are Here

During the Kombat Kast, they briefly talk about the changes coming with the Quan-Chi patch. One of which is the much-anticipated WiFi filter feature that is finally being added to Mortal Kombat 1, allowing players to decline matches based on the connection type that the opponent has. They also confirmed that there will be a balance patch with adjustments to all characters and Kameos as well. In addition to all of this, they will be adding the new Season of Ice Tower, with added voice lines featuring Arctic Sub-Zero as the final opponent and multiple ice-themed skins for all of the characters.
