Mortal Kombat 1 New Season and Future

Quan Chi Arrives in Mortal Kombat 1

Quan Chi is the newest playable character from Mortal Kombat 1’s(MK1) Kombat Pack, a collection of post-launch DLCs that features characters from modern popular media. Such characters include: Omni-man from the adult animated series Invincible; Peacemaker from the live-action DC movie The Suicide Squad and his own self-titled TV show; and Homelander from the live-action Amazon series The Boys.

As shown in the gameplay trailer, Quan Chi utilizes his Netherrealm powers to summon portals that allows him to attack the opposition from the most unpredictable angles. He can also call forth tentacles from his portals to strike his enemies, as well as summon ghastly projectiles such as skulls to launch and haunt his foes. Last but not least, his Fatality summons a series of sharp mirrors that wholly dissects his opponents evenly, leaving parallel finely sliced organs and flesh in its wake.

In a recent livestream with the developers a day before Quan Chi was released, they went more in depth with the breakdown of Quan Chi, tackling all his moves and special abilities which were not shown in the initial reveal trailer. They also speak of future plans and features for MK1, which will be reported further down this article.

John Cena as Peacemaker in MK1 is Confirmed

The end of Quan Chi’s reveal trailer shows a sneak preview of the next character arriving in MK1, Peacemaker. Played by professional wrestler John Cena in the original live-action movie and TV show, the short clip all but confirms that he will be the voice of Peacemaker for MK1.

Mortal Kombat 1 Season 3 "The Cryomancer"

Alongside Quan Chi comes the third season of Mortal Kombat, titled “The Cryomancer.” This alludes to the holiday winter season, where winter-themed costumes can be earned from completing MK1’s “Invasions” mode.

The winter-themed outfits that can be earned are as follows:

 ●  Kitana - Icy Edenian
 ●  Geras - Winter History
 ●  Baraka - Frozen Daybreaker
 ●  Shang Tsung - Shivering Sorcerer
 ●  Scorpion - Cryoblaze
 ●  General Shao - Snow Mountain
 ●  Mileena- Royal Rime
 ●  Johnny Cage - Brisk Box Office
 ●  Li Mei - Chilly Constable
 ●  Havik - Frozen Chaos
 ●  Tanya - Frigid Guardian

Besides cosmetics, multiple boss battles have also been added. Take on super-powered versions of Ashrah as the Fallen Angel, a more powerful Sinister Shang Tsung, and the main boss, “The Cryomancer” himself, Sub-Zero.

Mortal Kombat 1 Krossplay and Other Features

As confirmed by Ed Boon on Twitter(X), the creative director of Mortal Kombat, the update will include a long-requested feature of ping-filtering, where players can decline matches based on their quality of connection. This is in lieu of the fact that many players take advantage of high-latency pings to abuse online matches, often dubbed as “Wi-fi warriors.”

Krossplay(Crossplay), or the ability to match against players in other platforms (such as from PC to Xbox), is another long-requested feature that still has yet to be implemented for MK1. During the aforementioned livestream of the developers, from an earlier section, they confirm that Krossplay will still be coming in February 2024, where players between PlayStation, Xbox, and PC will finally be able to engage in Mortal Kombat.

Boon replied to an impatient gamer on Twitter(X) complaining about the delay of the arrival of Krossplay and demanding it take precedence over other features. Boon aptly replies, “You think they are all of equal complexity?” hinting that the developers from NetherRealm studios are continuously hard at work implementing the long-awaited feature.
