Monster Hunter Wilds First Gameplay Showcase Revealed in State of Play May 2024

Two Main Weapons?!

Monster Hunter Wilds' gameplay has finally been revealed! Based on the footage, Monster Hunter Wilds will feature a storyline similar to Monster Hunter World. You, as the Hunter, are tasked with leading an expedition into the wilds and with a priority of looking for a missing hunter group that was out before you. We see that the Slinger makes a return in the new game, with the added bonus of being able to use it while on the mount. It seems that the game's focus will be more of the ecosystem similar to MH World, but on a larger scale.

The biggest reveal, however, was that you could carry a second main weapon and switch into it while on your mount! This can be seen when the Hunter gets on his mount and changes his Great Sword to his other weapon, the Heavy Bowgun. You could even shoot while mounted, which begs the question, can you just stay on your mount the whole time during a hunt?

To no one's surprise, the Great Sword makes a return as a playable weapon, and it has a few new tricks up its sleeve! There's a new stance that seems to chain into a strong attack that follows up into the shoulder tackle to press your advantage against the enemy monster. Also, it even has a new move where the Hunter drags the heavy blade after connecting with a heavy swing.

Monster Hunter Wilds is now available for Wishlist on PC(Steam), PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, and is slated to release on 2025.
