An Aftermath Style Expansion?
Ed Boon, Mortal Kombat 1’s development chief, confirmed at a Comic Con event in Brazil that the story of the game will be continued and that they have a big surprise for fans. “Just like we did with MK11, we’re going to release a second part with more story and we have a big surprise after that,” he said.
This sounds a lot like Mortal Kombat 11’s Aftermath story expansion, which was released a little over a year after the game’s launch. This included an additional story mode, new fighters, new maps, new fatalities, and the friendship finisher. With Boon’s announcement, it seems that Mortal Kombat 1 is going to have something similar down the road. However, we’ll just have to wait and see what the “big surprise” is.
Continue Support for Mortal Kombat 1
Boon also mentioned that they’ll be supporting Mortal Kombat 1 for longer than they did its predecessor. Mortal Kombat 11 was supported with updates for more than two years after its release. This is undoubtedly great news for fans of the franchise as big games these days, provided they’re not live-service games, are rarely updated after a year or two.
