Metroid Prime 4’s New Lead Voice Actress Revealed
Metroid’s Silent Protagonist Gets a New Voice

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond welcomes Erin Yvette as the brand new voice actress for series protagonist Samus Aran, a fact revealed in the game’s end-credits sequence. Yvette, known for playing characters in games such as Blonde Blazer in the superhero work comedy Dispatch and Unika in Guilty Gear Strive, replaces legendary voice actress Jennifer Hale, who played Samus in the previous Metroid Prime games.
This change comes as a surprise since, as one of the most famous silent protagonists in gaming, Samus’ new voice isn’t immediately noticeable throughout the game unless players pay close attention to her grunts and death cries.. Nintendo seems to have kept this change under wraps as well, with Hale, who is also well known for roles such as Commander Shepard in Mass Effect, Jean Grey in X-Men 97, and Bayonetta in Bayonetta 3, telling IGN that she had "no recollection" of being asked to work on Metroid Prime 4 due to every project being assigned under codenames.

As one of the most highly-anticipated games of the year, Metroid Prime 4 has been scrutinized for many of the changes that have been made to the series’ formula, particularly with the addition of controversial NPCs that speak to Samus during the game. However, this change to Samus seems to be a fairly welcomed one by fans and critics alike for being an innocuous change that introduces a beloved voice actress into the franchise.
In general, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has been received warmly by fans and critics ahead of its official launch, garnering a Metacritic score of 81%. Game8 gave Metroid Prime 4: Beyond a score of 88 for its gorgeous graphics, responsive controls, environmental storytelling, and memorable boss fights. Some Small Day 1 Updates to Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

This news follows a small patch that went live today, along with Metroid Prime 4: Beyond’s official release. The most notable addition to Metroid Prime 4’s v1.1.0 patch is amiibo support, which lets players use the Samus, Vi-O-La, and Sylux amiibo for various bonuses throughout the game.
The Sylux amiibo unlocks a secret cutscene without requiring the usual completion requirements. The Vi-O-La amiibo is used for customizing and recharging the bike. Additionally, the Samus amiibo grants a shield for 99 health and lets players change the background music, while amiibo from across the entire Metroid franchise can be used to randomly unlock various game sounds.
Some small quality-of-life changes have also been implemented in this patch, which include changing the unlock requirements for the Gallery mode and adjusting the enemies in Hard mode.
