Mecha BREAK Lead Teases Anime and Manga Despite Player Criticisms
CEO Eyes Anime, Novels, and Figurines for Franchise Expansion

Mecha BREAK is aiming for higher skies with plans for an anime and a manga adaptation, despite lingering criticism of its monetization practices. According to an interview with CEO and Lead Producer Kris Kwok, the release of Mecha Break was more than just a launch.
"Mecha BREAK is not limited to a single game, but we would like to develop it from multiple perspectives as an IP in the future," Kwok elaborated. "Like the trailers I've released so far, I want to make various anime and novels. Also, I'm working on a figure."
In his words, it was akin to witnessing "the birth of a child, "and only the beginning of a broader push toward multimedia expansion. He previously cited Macross and Gundam as major influences during his youth, shaping the creative roadmap behind the game.
Excessive Cosmetic Prices, Content-Locking and Pay-to-Win Systems

Mecha BREAK launched with strong interest, drawing over 130,000 concurrent players on day one. However, players have noted a shift from the more accessible beta model, leading to mixed reviews on Steam.
Many players have criticized Mecha BREAK'S expensive cosmetic bundles ($47–$57 USD) and an auction house that some say creates a pay-to-win environment. There’s also frustration over beta content now locked behind paywalls, with some noting that free progression feels grindy.
Partial Improvements Made, But Monetization Concerns Still Persist

Amazing Seasun Games, the developer of Mecha BREAK, has acknowledged player feedback and made several improvements since its official release. Kwok emphasized in an April interview that the game aims to be "fair and skill-based, not pay-to-win."
"The only thing distinguishing players in the game should be their skill level. Key updates include unlocking all 12 mechs and offering free character customization options like hairstyles and body shapes."
Kwok added "The PvE-focused Mashmak mode was also enhanced with new difficulty levels, bosses, and loot. To maintain fairness, mods were disabled in competitive PvP modes but remain in Mashmak."

However, some players point out that these changes don’t fully address concerns. Notably, select customization features available during beta are now behind paywalls, and many remain unhappy with mod restrictions in casual play.
Overall, while Mecha BREAK shows promise with ongoing improvements and a clear vision from its developers, persistent concerns over monetization have betrayed player expectations. How Amazing Seasun Games addresses these challenges moving forward will likely shape the game’s long-term success and community trust.
Mecha BREAK Enlists Legendary Gundam and Metal Gear Veterans
Hiroyuki Sawano, Shigenobu Matsuyama, and Takayuki Yanase

Kwok explained that his long-standing admiration for iconic mecha creators shaped many of Mecha BREAK's creative decisions. Having known Gundam and Metal Gear mecha designer Takayuki Yanase for years, Kwok brought him on during the project’s second major revision to ensure the game’s visuals matched the mecha stories that inspired him.
He also shared how renowned composer Hiroyuki Sawano initially declined involvement due to the game’s limited visibility and unclear direction two years ago. However, after the August 2024 test, Sawano resonated with Mecha Break’s refined world and visuals, ultimately agreeing to compose an original track for the game

Shigenobu Matsuyama, on the other hand, played a key role in the Metal Gear series as a producer and director. Although Hideo Kojima is the original creator and lead director, Matsuyama supported the project by overseeing production and helping realize Kojima’s creative vision.
As Mecha BREAK's producer, Matsuyama applies his experience from Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown and other Ace Combat titles to deliver immersive combat. His expertise in designing flight combat influences Mecha BREAK’s mech battles and overall gameplay experience.

With that in mind, the core concept of Mecha Break was to capture the dynamic action of Gundam games, aiming to deliver not just intense gunplay but also the immersive experience of piloting a giant mech.
"I've loved mecha and games since I was a little kid, and it's always been my dream to make a game like that," Kwok said. However, as I grew older, I also felt that it was a difficult dream to fulfill, like a pilot or a racing driver. But I'm very happy that I'm lucky enough to be in the game industry and that my dream is coming true."
Mecha BREAK launched on July 1, 2025, for PC and Xbox Series X|S, with a PlayStation 5 release planned for a later date. To stay up to date with the latest information about the game, check out our article below!
