Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Cut Most of Venom’s Dialogue

Venom is easily one of Spider-Man’s most popular villains and his appearance in Insomniac Games’ most recent title did not go unnoticed. Despite the villain’s pitch-black presence in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, recent developments reveal that we could have gotten way more of Venom’s iconic viciousness in the game’s final release.

Tony Todd, Venom’s voice actor, revealed in a panel interview at FAN EXPO San Francisco that only 10% of his recorded dialogue made it to the final game, leaving much of his performance as Venom on the cutting room floor.

Despite the character’s popularity, it seems that Insomniac Games saw it fit to cut most of Venom’s content from the game. While most of the cut content is undoubtedly comprised of screams and growls from the ferocious Klyntar antihero, it would have been nice to see what else Tony Todd’s performance entailed for the character. For the time being, we can only imagine.

Cut Content Could Be For Future Venom DLC

Venturing into the realm of speculation, the large amount of cut Venom content could indicate a possible upcoming DLC featuring the black symbiote himself. This could solve the disparity between Tony Todd’s performance and what was featured in the final game, but it’s equally likely that Insomniac had to make room for the rest of Spider-Man’s odd assortment of villains.

There are currently no official announcements or statements from Insomniac Games regarding this, but considering Venom’s popularity as a Spider-Man villain, he’s prime real estate for Insomniac’s future ventures.

What’s Next for Insomniac Games?

Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man titles have been a historic success for the company, including its latest installment, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which was nominated for GOTY in The 2023 Game Awards.

Despite this, it seems the Insomniac will be focusing on its Wolverine title for the time being. Considering its resounding success, however, it’s unlikely that they’d be abandoning the Spider-Man Series entirely.
