Marvel Tokon Calls the X-Men for Its 20 Character Roster
Wolverine, Magik, and Danger Revealed for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls
Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls unveils a new trailer that reveals the X-Men, specifically Magik, Wolverine, and Danger, as part of the game’s base roster. Revealed at PlayStation’s recent State of Play presentation, Marvel Tokon’s latest trailer also hinted at the game’s story, an episodic story mode, new gameplay changes, and a final release date of August 6, 2026, with different editions being available for purchase.
Magik, the Queen of Limbo, appears in Tokon as a fighter who excels in controlling the mid-range through the Soulsword, her iconic greatsword forged out of her life energy. She can also teleport around the stage through her Stepping Disc portals, making her an unpredictable, highly mobile fighter with very long range. Her super move presumably has her turning into her demonic Darkchild persona to unlock certain spells and power up key moves.
Wolverine, meanwhile, is the same old battle-scarred and Adamantium-boned warrior he’s always been, using his claws and trademark savagery for an aggressive, rushdown playstyle bolstered by unstoppable, armored claw swipes and his signature healing factor.
The last fighter revealed for the X-Men team, Danger, is a relatively obscure character who debuted in the 2005 Astonishing X-Men comic series written by Avengers director Joss Whedon. She is the autonomous AI of the X-Men’s training room made manifest and empowered by Shi’ar alien technology, and in-game, she plays as a zoner who uses different weapons to set up traps all over the screen and turn the stage into a controlled obstacle course.

It is also worth noting that the gameplay trailer revealed some key changes to the game’s combat mechanics, as players can now call Assist moves from a grounded state while performing a combo in the air instead of an aerial state, similar to how they functioned in the Marvel vs. Capcom series. This change has been praised by fans across social media and seen as a welcome addition that makes combos more interesting and dynamic.
Marvel Tokon Finds the Marvel Universe in Collapse

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls leans heavily on the series’ emphasis on superhero teams, both in its 4v4 tag-team gameplay and in its story, which sees an unnamed threat approaching Earth and taking down many key superheroes. For instance, the recently revealed X-Men team is led by Storm and named the "Unbreakable X-Men."
The trailer revealed at the State of Play hints at the game’s story, with a mysterious force destroying the Shi’ar homeworld of Chantilar and an unknown assailant killing Deathbird and Gladiator, two of the Shi’ar’s most powerful warriors. This threat now approaches Earth, with game producer Takeshi Yamanaka revealing in a blog post that an intense battle took most of the core X-Men out of commission. Yamanaka also reveals that the game’s story will be told through an "Episode Mode" which "depicts Marvel heroes and villains, including the X-Men, standing against a new threat."

Given the game’s emphasis on teams and the 20-character roster, it’s possible that certain heroes already on the roster could hint at other characters coming to Marvel Tokon. Fans speculate that there is a possibility for an Avengers team led by Captain America with Thor, Hulk, or Ant-Man, while a Star-Lord-led Guardians of the Galaxy team could bring in Drax or Rocket Raccoon.
Marvel Tokon is Releasing August 6 With Several Bonuses

Marvel Tokon’s State of Play trailer also showcased a few bonuses that come with pre-orders, as well as the Digital Deluxe and Ultimate editions of the game. Pre-ordering the game will grant players the Infinity Gauntlet and Cosmic Surfboard lobby avatars, as well as a Baby Groot lobby pet.
The game’s Digital Deluxe Edition, meanwhile, costs $84.99 and includes the aforementioned pre-order bonuses, as well as access to the Year One Character and Stage Pass, a Howard the Duck lobby avatar, and a Cosmo the Dog lobby pet. The Ultimate Edition, priced at $99.99, includes all these bonuses alongside an extra color palette for every character and classic skins for Captain America, Iron Man, Doctor Doom, Spider-Man, and Storm.
