On March 5, 2024. Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at Japan's 29th Association of Media in Digital Awards ceremony dedicated to celebrating Japan's digital media content. The ceremony acknowledged the successes of various games and entertainment ventures from 2023, which included the latest Super Mario Bros. Movie., Street Fighter 6, the Pokémon Sleep app, and the anime Oshi no Ko.
Established in 1995, the annual Japanese AMD Awards has become a cornerstone of Japan's media landscape, honoring achievements in video games, anime, music, and more. During the ceremony, Shigeru Miyamoto delivered an acceptance speech for the prestigious Lifetime Achievement award, reflecting on his remarkable four-decade-long tenure at Nintendo.
Miyamoto attributed his success to the collaborative efforts of his colleagues, spanning diverse fields from arcade machine engineering to modern-day internet technologies. "On the behalf of all the people I have worked together with to create things," declared the game developer as he accepted the award.
He expressed his desire to continue collaborating with professionals from various domains, sharing that he takes on a proactive approach to creation with his own creative insights. In addition to the lifetime achievement award, Miyamoto also graced the stage to present an Excellence Award to the 2023 film adaptation of The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
