Featuring "Serious" Majima

But There’ll Still Be Goofing Off

The latest entry into the popular Like a Dragon series is set to push the boundaries of reality to the utmost level while also having a "manly drama" of a storyline, says RGG Studio in an interview with Automaton Media.

Despite the series being known for its gags and humor, with others calling Majima even one of the funniest characters, RGG Studio director Masayoshi Yokoyama mentioned that this version of Majima will instead have a "more serious" outlook, especially during the beginning of the story.

Ryosuke Horii, producer of Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, added on to Yokoyama’s statement, mentioning that there’s a "manly drama" in the center of the game, showcasing Majima’s passionate progression to achieve his goals as well as the bonds he makes in this over-the-top journey. "The goofing off isn’t the main point – there’s a manly drama at the center of things. Of course, there are some crazy parts to take detours to, but overall, I think it’s a straightforward tale about a passionate man."

Horii then shared that there’s something inherently unique about Majima that the series long-time protagonist, Kazuma Kiryu, can’t seem to portray. As translated by Automaton, "So, if we didn’t take proper advantage of that, there would be no point in having Majima as the main character. That’s why we blurred the lines of reality a little more than we would with Kiryu, hoping to offer players rich action that’s full of variety. … I wanted to strike a good balance between the pirate-ness, Majima-ness, and ‘Ryu ga Gotoku’-ness, so I think that was a difficult part."

The game will surely bring about the best balance of realism and extravagance, as the team made sure not to make the game plain and boring, fueling their motivation to make its gameplay a little "wilder, while maintaining a serious and proper drama."
