Classic Minecraft Running In Hytale
A Hytale modder was able to run Minecraft in the game through "pure map pixel data manipulation." In a Twitter (X) post on January 18, the player shared his latest modding achievement, noting that he used "zero assets" to integrate the classic sandbox RPG into Hytale.
He explained in full detail how he was able to do this on Reddit, under the r/hytale subreddit. According to his post, he was able to run Minecraft Classic 0.30 on Hytale using a custom software renderer that he made himself.
"No GPU, no OpenGL calls - just pure CPU-based 3D rendering. Every frame, I compute the pixels myself and stream them to players through Hytale's world map system (the M key map). Delta compression keeps bandwidth low by only sending pixels that actually changed between frames," the modder said.
However, adding Minecraft into Hytale wasn’t without any issues, such as rendering and input problems. He elaborated on how he overcame these challenges, which include creating a "complete software implementation of the OpenGL 1.1 fixed-function pipeline" and several workarounds for input detection.
"The game runs entirely server-side at 35 FPS with a resolution of 320x240. Players can explore the procedurally generated world, break and place blocks, and experience classic Minecraft - all rendered through pure software on the CPU," the modder concluded.
The Importance of Modding For Hytale
Hytale developer Hypixel previously emphasized the importance of modding for their game, and SSquadteam’s efforts just go to show the many possibilities modders can do with the voxel adventure. This was also a major reason for them not releasing on Steam, as the third-party app currently does not support several key modding tools.
While it remains to be seen if Hypixel’s decision to limit Hytale’s Early Access to their own launcher will pay off long-term, the game’s debut was undeniable as it briefly became the most-watched game on Twitch, peaking at over 440,000 concurrent viewers. It is also worth noting that since Hytale is currently in Early Access, the developers have a significant window to refine and polish the experience ahead of its full official release.

Update 1 Now Available
Hytale's first major patch, released on January 17, focuses on expanding the world, rebalancing progression, and addressing community feedback. The latest update added dinosaurs and NPCs to populate the underground jungles, as well as new atmospheric improvements in the Devastated Lands sewers.
Players now have access to expanded character customization options, ranging from new "Lavender" hair colors to more diverse eye and mouth types. Meanwhile, gameplay balances have been made by streamlining early-game progression, and encouraging players to use the cooking system, as raw foods now only provide a minor health regeneration buff.
The patch also introduced critical quality-of-life improvements and combat refinements, which includes making crafting benches more efficient and tighter combat logic.
In terms of stability, the developers addressed several issues that revolve around crashes related to character creation and item interactions, while optimizing server performance through improved network congestion control. This was a point of immediate concern for Hypixel as they received numerous day-one issues, to which they promised to deliver a hotfix as soon as possible.
By addressing these issues so quickly after the Early Access debut, the developers have signaled a commitment to a rapid patching cadence as they work toward the game's official release. Most importantly, Hypixel Founder Simon Collins-Laflamme is dedicated to support the game for the next ten years, which boosts fan confidence that Hytale’s eventual full launch will be improved and polished.
