GTA V had a scrapped story DLC hidden in its code, and dataminers just found it, along with the pieces of what could have been Bully 2. Read on to learn more details about the discovery, and what could have been for two of Rockstar's greatest games.
GTA Dataminers Find Cut Story DLC Content and Bully 2
As if to ride the excitement of Rockstar’s recent announcement for GTA 6, new evidence of scrapped content for GTA V just emerged, courtesy of dataminers @GlowDevs and @Wildbrick142. X (formerly Twitter) user @billsyliamgta credited the two for finding details on said assets, which could have been slated for a now-scrapped story DLC for the game.
Also among the findings was a short snippet pertaining to Bully 2, the supposed sequel to Rockstar’s 2006 breakout hit, Bully.
“Trevor With a Jetpack” Sparks Theories About Cut DLC Content
One of the more prominent references found by the dataminers pertains to an asset called "Trevor with a Jetpack", which immediately sparked speculation regarding a cut story DLC and how it was repurposed into GTA Online. 2018 saw Rockstar’s unveiling of the Doomsday Heist missions for GTA Online and the accompanying Thruster, a jetpack exclusive to multiplayer mode to this day. This pretty much confirmed the theories, but nothing is official without a statement from Rockstar.
With that discovery came several references to "CNC" - a term that dataminer @GlowDevs surmised to mean "Cops ‘n Crooks" - which was a planned game mode that was quietly shelved in 2020 following the death of George Floyd.
Bully 2’s Development Hell and Reemergence
As if that wasn’t enough, remnants of what could have been Bully 2 were found in a short string saying "unique_key_bully2" within the game’s code. This was a completely left-field discovery that left people baffled and reminiscing about their gamified juvenile delinquency days in 2006.
Bully 2 was supposed to be a sequel to Rockstar’s game, Bully, and was in development at Rockstar New England in 2019. Development fizzled out after 18 months, and no official statement has been made regarding its continuation, leaving fans hanging for its release. Although Bully 2’s script was drafted all the way back in 2008, there doesn’t seem to be any continued development for the game currently.
What Will Rockstar Do With The Scrapped Content?
Seeing that Rockstar’s preoccupied with GTA 6 at the moment, it’s unlikely we’ll see any of these leaked assets put to good use. Bully 2, in particular, would probably never see the light of day, but that’s not going to stop fans from wondering what could have been had Rockstar chosen a different path and released Bully 2 and a story DLC for GTA V.
