Ghost of Yōtei PS5 Advantages
Memory Feature Experience Enhanced Thanks to PS5

Ghost of Yōtei introduces a brand-new feature in the series where players can go back to the past and relive protagonist Atsu’s experiences at certain parts of the map, which is all thanks to PlayStation 5’s advanced technology. In an interview with Game Informer on July 17, Sucker Punch Directors Nate Fox and Jason Connell shared their thoughts on working with Sony’s latest console.
The new "memory feature" enables players to learn more about Atsu’s past, fostering a deeper connection with the character. Fox explained, "We want to give players the freedom to kind of go back and forth and to experience some gameplay as a kid so they can recall what it is – so they can feel what it is that Atsu feels. What she lost when her parents were taken from her."

With the help of the PS5, Sucker Punch was able to manifest both past and present simultaneously, giving players continuous gameplay. Fox stated, "It is because of the PlayStation 5 that we can do this flipping back and forth. It's very powerful business to have both of them on at one time."
Beyond the memory feature, the team was able to enhance the graphics of the environment, which is a tough task considering Tsushima already had one of the best-looking game worlds in gaming history. Connell noted, "There's much, much further sight lines making the mountains feel so far away. The team did just such a great job making them feel epic and large and big. The terrain tessellation, we've done some work on there, higher-fidelity rendering for far terrain."

He also mentioned that they plan to release a video or trailer that outlines all the graphical improvements the game will have. Sucker Punch made great emphasis on bringing these changes to light in the game to highlight the Ghost series’ photorealism.
Conell elaborated, "There's a style to Ghost that is really important. And it's not just pure photoreal, though photorealism has an aspect to it. It's really taking that style, bringing it a little bit more forward and developing features that help achieve our visual and aesthetic and emotional and tonal goals."
Maximizing PS5 and the DualSense Controller

The Ghost series has been established as one of Sony’s key IPs in the gaming industry, and Sucker Punch gives its praise to the company’s hardware for making such advancements possible. Beginning with Tsushima’s awe-inspiring environment, the studio has since ported the PS4 classic to PS5, which further upscaled its visual brilliance.
Fox said, "It was such an incredible experience making Ghost of Tsushima for the PlayStation 4 and then pretty quickly seeing how that game showed up on the PlayStation 5." On top of the console itself, he also stated that the DualSense controller gave them new ways to let players experience Yōtei.
"The PlayStation 5 is, of course, an incredible piece of hardware, but let’s face it, this controller’s magnificent. I love the haptics. I love the way the touchpad works. Ghost of Yotei is built from the ground up to use the PlayStation 5 and to have those lightning-fast loads, and to be able to use the DualSense controller to its maximum effect," Fox stated.

Furthermore, Yōtei is the first title that Sucker Punch has created exclusively for the PS5, and the team wanted to push the console and the controller’s limits to make the game "come alive." Fox said, "We could not have made this game without the PS5’s features, which we’re very happy to be making a game exclusively targeted for this controller."
Yōtei will also release on the PS5 Pro, but Sucker Punch has yet to share details on that version. Ghost of Yōtei will launch on October 2, 2025 exclusively on the PlayStation 5. To stay up to date with the latest information about the game, check out our article below!
