Final Fantasy 7 Remake rolled out Version 1.003 patch update for the PC and PS consoles this week, implementing various bug fixes, although Square Enix did not provide detailed patch notes. The developers only mentioned "- fixes to several bugs" on the game's Steam page.

The update also introduced a change to the game's ending dialogue. While the ending of the game still played out as in the initial, with Aerith looking up at the sky in the aftermath of the final boss battle against Sephiroth, fans expressed disappointment over the revised line.

The original line which resonated deeply with the player base ""I miss it. The steel sky," was changed to a direct translation of the spoken dialogue in the game's Japanese version, "This sky... I don't like it."

Aerith says "空。。。嫌いだな。" in the Japanese edition of the game. As pointed out by several fans, the original line in the English version of the game referred to the top surface of Midgar as the "steel sky," symbolizing Aerith's longing for the world above the slums. Fans expressed disappointment over the alteration as it was perceived to be less poetic and meaningful, with some stating that the original was their favorite out of all the uttered lines in the entire game.

FFVIIHook Mod Broken

Additionally, the patch update made the FFVIIHook mod incompatible with FF7 Remake's latest version. This mod "unlocks the dev-console, giving access to console commands & easy changes to the games CVars - along with allowing loose INI files to be loaded in from the games config folder."

Players relied on the mod to address performance issues and enhance gameplay experiences. The mod has since then been reported to be unsupported by the game.

Since its release in 2020, Final Fantasy 7 Remake has garnered praise for its stunning visuals, dynamic combat system, and expanded narrative. However, the recent update has stirred debate within its player base regarding the changes and their potential relation to the upcoming release of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
