FF7 Rebirth Card Game "Queen’s Blood" Expansion Being Considered by Director Naoki Hamaguchi
"Queen’s Blood’s" Very Positive Reception From Players Might Get it a Standalone Game
FF7 Director Naoki Hamaguchi was interviewed by Red Bull, in which he was asked about the card game within FF7 Rebirth "Queen’s Blood." Red Bull inquires, "Tell us More about the Queen’s Blood card game. How many cards are there and are there plans for new cards to be added?"
Hamaguchi responds with a vague but hopeful answer, that they are considering further expansions of the card game due to the great reception it has received from the fans.
"There are 145 cards in total. We haven’t decided anything in terms of future development for Queen’s Blood, but so far, the media who played it have provided very positive feedback on it, so we want to consider further expansions as a possibility."

The answer is quite vague, and as such it’s important to quell excitement and expectations for what "further expansions" could denote. However, seeing as even the FF7 Rebirth development team themselves have become fond of the card game, to the point that they 3D-printed out the entire set near the end of the game’s development, they will surely be keen into pouring some extra love for Queen’s Blood down the line. Whether it be a separate DLC for the game to add more cards and rules, a standalone mobile game, or perhaps even a physical set, even Square Enix would undoubtedly be excited about any of those possibilities.
What Even is "Queen’s Blood?"
Queen’s Blood is the popular card game that becomes available for Cloud to participate in as soon as he gains control in the morning at the Kalm Inn. Hanging on his room’s door handle would be a set of starter cards given to him by the innkeeper. The embedded video above is the tutorial given.
You and your opponent have five cards on hand and will take turns placing down cards on a horizontal 3x5 tileboard, and the goal is to place enough cards per row and raise that row’s total power number to be higher than your opponent’s. The game ends when both players can no longer place down cards. Each row with the higher number will be tallied, and whoever has a higher total number wins the game.
