FF7 Rebirth Director Confirms Patch Fixing Performance Mode Coming Soon
Facial Lighting Will Be Heavily Improved
During an event in the Philippines over the weekend, FF7 Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed that the development team is actively working on an update patch to improve the visual quality in the game's Performance Mode. He also acknowledged the feedback from players and said he was aware of such critiques.
The director said, "We’ve received a lot of feedback on whether the graphics in the performance mode will be improved or not. We hear you, and we are currently working on an update patch to improve that aspect. I don’t think the release date would be far away from now," according to news site One More Game.
In response to inquiries about the contents of the patch, Hamaguchi mentioned that one aspect being addressed is the appearance of characters under certain lighting conditions, which some players found unsettling and scary. Other details about the patch were not disclosed, but Hamaguchi reassures that the launch of the patch would not be far away.
"We have heard from players that in certain situations, the facial lighting makes some character shadows look very scary. So that’s one part of the update that we are working on," the director stated.
Funnily enough, the director said he preferred FF7 Rebirth's Graphics Mode for its superior visual quality. "I like to play other games in graphics mode as well because I like to see better graphics," Hamaguchi stated in response to personal preference between the game's Graphics and Performance modes.
FF7 Rebirth launched the previous week and garnered widespread acclaim. The game currently boasts a 92/100 'Universal Acclaim' Metascore on Metacritic.
