FF7 Rebirth Was Unaware Sephiroth Was Added to Smash Bros
Only Found Out Following the Official Announcement
Naoki Hamaguchi, director of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, recently revealed in an interview with Kinda Funny today that no one on the development team knew that Sephiroth was going to be added in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate until the public announcement.
During the interview, Hamaguchi was asked for insights into the addition of Sephiroth in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. However, he disclosed that the addition of Sephiroth to the roster was kept highly confidential. He stated that neither he nor his team had any prior knowledge of Sephiroth's involvement in Nintendo's multi-verse fighting game series until the information became public.
"Sephiroth in Smash Brothers, it was actually extremely confidential that he was even going to be in it," Hamaguchi said. "So, none of the dev team knew, including myself. So it was more like when the whole world knew it, and that's when we knew it like, 'Oh! I had no idea!'"
Sephiroth's was added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as part of the game's Fighter’s Pass Vol. 2, which began in June 2020. For those who don't keep up with the Final Fantasy series, Sephiroth is the arch nemesis of the game's main guy, Cloud, and is known as one of the most iconic villains in gaming. The pass includes five additional playable characters from various gaming franchises.
