Exciting Announcements for MAR10 Day
Super Mario Bros. Movie Sequel In The Works
Nintendo recently premiered a video across several of their YouTube channels to mark MAR10 Day 2024, featuring a series of exciting announcements centered around the beloved Mario franchise.
The video kicks off with a greeting from none other than Mario's creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, who unveils the first announcement: a collaboration between Nintendo and Illumination Studios to develop a sequel to The Super Mario Bros. movie, which grossed an impressive $1 billion at the box office.
Miyamoto introduces Chris Meledandri, founder of Illumination, who shares that the movie is set for release on April 3rd in the US and various other global markets, with additional territories to follow throughout the month.
Meledandri also reveals that the original movie's directors and animation team are already hard at work on the sequel. Miyamoto concludes by promising that the new film will deliver a "bright and fun story" that will "broaden Mario’s world further."
Paper Mario, Luigi’s Mansion, and Gameboy Mario Announcements
The video further unveiled a series of exciting announcements related to Mario games. First up, Paper Mario fans will be delighted to learn that Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is slated for release on May 23, 2024. Following that, Nintendo announced an HD remaster of Luigi's Mansion 2, originally launched on the Nintendo 3DS in 2013.
Wrapping up the reveals, the video showcased three classic Mario titles set to join the Nintendo Switch Online library: the Game Boy classic Dr. Mario, along with Game Boy Color gems Mario Golf and Mario Tennis.
Lego x Mario Collaboration
Nintendo and Lego have announced yet another collaboration, revealing three new Lego kits set to release on August 1, 2024.

The Bowser Express Train
The Bowser Express Train Kit will have 1392 Lego pieces and includes "a detailed train, a handcar, 2 stations, a Super Star Block, ? Block and 6 LEGO Super Mario toy figures – a Hammer Bro, Boom Boom, 2 Goombas, and 2 Para-Biddybuds."
King Boo's Haunted Mansion
King Boo's Haunted Mansion will include 932 pieces and features a buildable toy haunted house that opens out for easy access to playful details such as an elevating sofa and a bookcase with a key-reveal function. It also includes 4 LEGO Super Mario toy figures – King Boo, a Yellow Baby Yoshi, a Dry Bones, and a Boo.
Battle with Roy at Peach's Castle
Battle with Roy at Peach's Castle will have 738 pieces and features "easy-to-rebuild walls that collapse under siege, a tower, a catapult, a rotating throne, and a fountain in the garden. There are also 3 LEGO Super Mario toy figures: Roy (for the first time in a LEGO Super Mario set), a Chain Chomp, and Toad."
In addition, Nintendo and Lego teased a forthcoming collaboration: Lego Super Mario Kart. A brief teaser showcased the silhouette of the iconic pipe-frame kart used throughout the Mario Kart series. This collaboration is slated for release in 2025.
