Dragon's Dogma 2 NPCs Mass Murdered Ruthlessly by Players

Dragon’s Dogma 2's performance issues have sparked wild responses from fans, as they consider killing the game's NPCs to boost frame rates. Read on to learn about Capcom's plans to address issues and more of the community's madness.

Dragon's Dogma 2 Needs to Boost Frame Rate

Uncapped Framerate Resolution Will be Released Eventually

According to a Capcom representative speaking to IGN, the significant CPU usage allocated to each character in Dragon's Dogma 2, including the will-be-victimized NPCs, can heavily impact frame rates, especially during crowded scenarios. Capcom acknowledged that current settings designed to reduce GPU load may have insignificant effectiveness but assured players they are exploring ways to enhance the game's performance.

"We're aiming to go at around or higher than 30 FPS. That is for consoles as well," explained Director Hideaki Itsuno in an interview with Game Informer. "There are some functions that you can turn on and off, but there aren't multiple sets of options that you can change at once. But yeah, the frame rate will come uncapped for all consoles."

News site RPGSite claimed that the DD2's high RAM usage can render it excruciatingly unplayable on handhelds such as Steam Deck and ROG Ally. They noted that the game can reach up to 13GB of RAM usage, which poses significant performance issues on platforms with limited memory capacity and results in low frame rates and stuttering.

Killing NPCs and Other Potential Fixes

As players await resolutions to these performance issues, they explored the prospect of an NPC murder spree to boost frame rates. Some players took to Reddit to propose a community-driven list of "inconsequential NPCs" that players can kill off.

It's hilariously crazy and we get it, we all want more FPS and need to cope. While the idea has sparked ironically productive discussions and spawned countless, priceless memes within the community, the practical effectiveness of NPC Mass Murder is yet to be confirmed.

There are other ways to improve the game's performance that don't involve mass murder, as suggested by others in the community. Some suggested adjusting the game's priority in the task manager or tweaking settings in the Nvidia Control Panel, such as setting Shader Cache Size to 'Unlimited', as potential solutions to address stuttering or crashes.
