Donkey Kong Bananza Development Updates
Developed by Members of the Super Mario Odyssey Team

Donkey Kong Bananza’s developers have now been revealed, and it turns out that they’re from the Super Mario Odyssey team. Ever since the game’s reveal, many have pointed out its similarities with Nintendo’s hit Mario 3D platformer – its art style, UI, and even how DK collects Banandium Gems.
According to Shack News on July 1, Nintendo confirmed during a live hands-on event for Bananza that members from Nintendo‘s Entertainment Planning & Development (EPD) team are behind the upcoming 3D DK title. However, they remained tight-lipped regarding the leads for the game, particularly its director.
It remains unclear why Nintendo is secretive about this matter, but given Nintendo EPD’s track record of delivering rich 3D games such as Super Mario Odyssey, Super Mario 3D World, and others, Bananza will be held to a high standard. Unfortunately, this does blur the future of a new 3D Mario game, especially since Odyssey came out back in 2017.

Regardless, Bananza may still feature the lovable plumbing hero since many signs point to the game being a prequel to Odyssey. Pauline, being DK’s sidekick in Bananza, and her becoming the Mayor of New Donk City establishes quite a connection between both games.
Many also wonder if Bananza could reveal how DK and Pauline’s relationship became kidnapper and victim, since both seem to be on good terms and are working together in the upcoming title. There are certainly more questions than answers in-game and behind the scenes of the game, so fans can’t wait to get their hands on DK Bananza.
Unleash Your Inner Kong in Bananza’s New Advert

The recent DK Bananza Direct on June 19 gave fans more things to get excited about DK’s new adventure. From its destructive bashing to its puzzle-solving mechanics, Bananza promises to deliver a whole new 3D platforming experience on Nintendo’s latest handheld console.
Donkey Kong Bananza is set to release on July 17, 2025 exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2. To stay up to date with the latest information about the game, check out our article below!
