Death Stranding 2: On the Beach Cast Takes Centerstage at TGS 2024
The excitement continues to build for Death Stranding 2 as Kojima Productions took center stage during the Death Stranding 2 Special Stage presentation at Tokyo Game Show 2024. Hosted by announcer Shohei Shibata, the panel featured Hideo Kojima, the game’s designer and producer, along with the main cast, who answered questions about the game's development and inspirations.
The panel included Hideo Kojima himself, singer/songwriter Daichi Miura, Kenjiro Tsuda as the voice of Sam Porter Bridge, Nana Mizuki as Fragile, Tomokazu Sugita, Shion Wakayama, and, in a surprise appearance, director Nicolas Winding Refn as Heartman
Fans were treated to insights into the creative process behind one of the year's most anticipated games, including a behind-the-scenes look at the performances of the game’s voice-acting cast.
George Miller, Elle Fanning, and Shioli Kutsuna Join Death Stranding 2’s Main Cast
No special stage presentation would be complete without a new trailer, and Death Stranding 2 certainly delivered. During the event’s Q&A session, the latest trailer unveiled three new characters set to join Sam on his journey: Tomorrow, Rainy, and the enigmatic Tarman.
Elle Fanning and Shiori Kutsuna will be stepping into the roles of Tomorrow and Rainy, respectively, as part of the DHV Magellan crew, while legendary Australian filmmaker George Miller, best known for directing the Mad Max movies, will portray the ship’s captain, Tarman.
Given Guillermo del Toro's cameo in the original Death Stranding, where his likeness was used but another actor provided the voice, it's likely that Miller’s appearance as Tarman will follow the same approach, with his likeness represented in-game but voiced by another actor.
Take Immersive Photos with Death Stranding 2’s Photo Mode
One of the game’s features highlighted during the event was Death Stranding 2: On the Beach’s unique Photo Mode. Unlike the free-camera stills seen in most modern single-player games, this Photo Mode takes a more immersive approach.
Instead of pausing gameplay to set up a cinematic shot, players can arrange a proper scene in-game, with the subjects cycling through random poses. Once the photo is taken, it’s printed as an in-game collectible Polaroid picture, adding a tangible element to the experience that ties directly into the game’s world.
Errolson Hugh Unveils ACRONYM X Death Stranding 2 Designer Jacket Onstage
Following the crowd’s excitement over Death Stranding 2’s fashion and clothing design, showcased during the Photo Mode presentation, Canadian designer Errolson Hugh, founder of the Berlin-based apparel brand ACRONYM, took the stage with an exciting reveal. Hugh announced that the jackets seen in the game are not only usable in-game but also available for purchase in real life.
Each cast member had the chance to try on and model these jackets onstage, followed by a brief history of the jacket's creation and the collaborative effort between ACRONYM and Kojima Productions. "We spent a lot of time with Hideo [Kojima] and Yoji to make this jacket, both in-game and in real life," Hugh said. "[And] I hope you can enjoy it in the narrative, in the story, as well as in the story of your lives."
Dubbed the "J91-WSDB," this exclusive ACRONYM X Death Stranding 2: On the Beach collaboration jacket is now available for purchase on ACRONYM’s official website.
