Cyberpunk 2077 made a surprising tweet relating to an upcoming announcement, which left fans curious. Read on to learn more about the latest message by developer CD Projekt Red, and what fans think of what it means.
Cyberpunk 2077 Sudden and Vague Announcement
An Important Message From N.U.S.A. President
Cyberpunk 2077 looks to continue its sci-fi tale as developer CD Projekt Red (CDPR) teased an upcoming announcement for the game. In a Twitter (X) post on September 1, Cyberpunk 2077 shared an image that contains a message from in-game N.U.S.A. President Rosalind Myers addressed the citizens regarding them "facing a mounting cybersecurity threat."
The message, dated September 4, 2025, urges "brave netrunners" to take their recruitment test and fight for the nation’s freedom. It is unclear what this post means for the game, and fans are intrigued by the sudden notice from the developers.
While CDPR already had its "final update" for the game, the company can have another one, considering they have backtracked on several "final updates" in the past couple of years. Additionally, development studio Virtuos Studios stated on July 17 that they still have ongoing work with Cyberpunk 2077.
Wide Variety of Fan Speculations

Due to the vagueness of the message, the community has begun theorizing and speculating what the post means. Fans are currently discussing this latest news on CDPR’s forums and various Reddit threads, with each having its own interpretation and speculation.
One of the common theories is that Cyberpunk 2077 will have another DLC that expands the game further. Following the success of the game’s Phantom Liberty expansion, CDPR could continue the DLC’s story or add another district to the game.

Some also think that the studio may add a NewGame+ feature, which players have been requesting for quite some time. Meanwhile, others made light of this message, stating that CDPR could just be holding another photo mode contest or an update regarding the game’s upcoming 5th anniversary in December.
Beyond the actual implications of the post to the franchise, fans were also curious about the delivery of the message in terms of the in-game lore. Based on the post, President Myers addressed the citizens in 2025, which would be impossible considering she supposedly would be president not until 2065.
Many believe that this may be a retconning of sorts with the game’s lore, while others think that this is just simply a direct message to fans in the real world. Regardless of whether the post is a straightforward tease or has a deeper meaning, it has piqued the interest of many and spawned countless speculations regarding the franchise.
Cyberpunk 2 Announcement Coming?

Another speculation that fans have come up with is that CDPR may be giving an update on Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel. Initially dubbed "Project Orion," it is no secret that the studio has been working on the game’s next installment, now being referred to by the company as "Cyberpunk 2."
On May 28, the developers confirmed that Cyberpunk 2 has entered pre-production. More recently, CDPR IR posted on Twitter (X) on August 28 that the development team grew in size. From having 96 members on April 30, the team now has 116 developers as of July 31.

Fans also noticed that Cyberpunk 2 Associate Game Director Pawel Sasko shared the post, further fueling their speculation that the upcoming announcement relates to Cyberpunk’s sequel.
Despite the project having substantial progress, CDPR co-CEO Michał Nowakowski previously stated during the company’s Q1 2025 earnings conference on May 28 that it takes an average of four to five years for a game to launch from its pre-production stage.

Although this may indicate that Cyberpunk 2 may be out of reach, CDPR may give a glimpse of what’s coming next for the Cyberpunk series on September 4, whether it is a continuation of the first game or an update on the looming sequel.
