Take-Two Confirms Decision After Last-Minute Delay in 2025

Borderlands 4’s planned release on the Nintendo Switch 2 has been put on hold, with publisher Take-Two confirming that development on the platform has been paused. The Switch 2 edition had been slated for an October 3, 2025 release, shortly after the game’s September 12 launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, but was delayed with no release window announced.
In a statement to Variety, Take-Two spokesperson Alan Lewis confirmed that the Switch 2 version is no longer in active development. Lewis said the company had made "the difficult decision to pause development on that SKU," and added that its focus continues to be on "delivering quality post-launch content for players and on the ongoing improvements to optimize the game," while also continuing to collaborate closely with Nintendo.

While the Switch 2 version’s status remains uncertain, he emphasized that Take-Two is still committed to supporting Nintendo’s new platform. Lewis also noted that both PGA Tour 2K25 and WWE 2K26 are scheduled to release on the system, and the company is "excited about bringing more titles" to the console in the future.
For now, there is no new release window for Borderlands 4 on the Switch 2, and Take-Two has not confirmed whether development will resume at a later date. For more information on the game, check out our article below!
