Black Myth Wukong News

2025

October 14

⚫︎ Black Myth: Wukong's massive update aims to fix several bugs and bring performance improvements. The developers noted that installed mods may cause issues with the update, so it is advisable to uninstall them first before downloading the 93.5 GB patch.

September 22

⚫︎ Black Myth: Wukong is officially teaming up with McDonald's in China, with the former releasing limited time products at select McDonald's branches across the country. The collaboration was announced on McDonald's China's official X page, hosted in part to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival.

September 11

⚫︎ Game Science has rolled out a new Black Myth: Wukong patch aimed at Xbox players. Since launch, many on Xbox Series X have reported underwhelming visuals compared to other platforms. The September update specifically targets these issues, with improvements that may significantly boost the game’s graphical quality.

August 18

⚫︎ Game Science has confirmed that Black Myth: Wukong will appear during Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 19 at 8:00 p.m. CEST, where the studio will share a special announcement about the upcoming action RPG.

May 5

⚫︎ Black Myth: Wukong has continued its commercial success with a strong physical release, according to PM Studios CEO Mike Yum. Speaking with The Gamer, Yum revealed that physical sales of the game remain “healthy” and have even had a significant impact on retailers, with some calling to say the release “saved their business” during the holiday season.

Yum noted that physical game sales are especially important in regions with limited internet infrastructure, such as Spain and Italy, where consumers often avoid downloading large files due to slow speeds or high data costs. While he did not disclose exact sales figures, Yum emphasized that the game's performance demonstrates ongoing demand for physical media in specific markets.

April 11

⚫︎ The Black Myth: Wukong Art Exhibition officially opened on April 9 at the CAA Art Museum in Hangzhou, China, running until May 21, 2025. The exhibit features original concept art, reference photos, models, statues, and merchandise from the upcoming Chinese AAA title, many of which are being displayed publicly for the first time.

Curated into seven thematic sections, the exhibition offers an in-depth look at the artistic and technical processes behind Black Myth: Wukong, aiming to blur the lines between digital and physical art. Visitors can explore the game’s iconic characters, environments, and props in a tangible space, gaining insight into its narrative and production design.

February 24

⚫︎ Despite criticism suggesting Black Myth: Wukong’s success is largely due to China's vast player base, new insights from Game Science co-founder and art director Yang Qi indicate otherwise. Speaking at the West Lake Art Forum at the China Academy of Art, Yang revealed that 30% of the game’s player base comes from outside China—a figure that reportedly surprised the development team. Released in 2024 to strong sales and high review scores on Steam and Metacritic, the action RPG also won the Players’ Voice Award at The Game Awards, establishing itself as a standout title regardless of its origin.

February 14

⚫︎ Black Myth: Wukong has been honored with the award for Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction at the D.I.C.E. Awards. Developer Game Science thanked the judges, team members, partners, and players for their support, noting that after a well-earned rest last year, the team is back to work—with a bit of downtime still in the mix.

January 15

⚫︎ Game Science has released a surprise short film celebrating the Chinese New Year and the Year of the Snake. The film features exclusive Black Myth merchandise, including clothing, plush toys, and tote bags from the studio’s official brand. The first batch is now available in Mainland China, with the studio actively seeking global partners to expand distribution and bring the products to international audiences.

2024

December 11

⚫︎ Black Myth: Wukong has received a major update, adding two new endgame modes—Return of Rivals and Gauntlet of Legends—unlocked after completing the main game. The modes feature rematches with previous bosses, including some with new moves and adjustable difficulty. Rewards include rare treasures, but challenges are only available if the corresponding enemies were defeated during the main story.

August 19

⚫︎ The highly anticipated Chinese action RPG Black Myth: Wukong has taken the gaming world by storm, hitting 1 million players on Steam within just one hour of launch. As of August 19, 2025, its 24-hour peak player count stands at 1,182,305, according to SteamDB.

⚫︎ Over the weekend, reports emerged that a Black Myth: Wukong co-publisher sent streamers and reviewers a Do’s and Don’ts document, restricting discussion of topics like “violence, nudity, feminist propaganda, fetishization,” and other content that could spark “negative discourse.”

The guidelines sparked debate online. One user on X wrote, “It is WILD to me that this actually made it out the door… creators casually signing this and not speaking up is just as wild.” Others, however, saw no issue with the restrictions.
