Baldur's Gate 3 (BG3), the multi-award winning RPG from Larian Studios, promises even more sinister endings to come for those who tread the path of darkness. Moreover, Larian confirms two new projects set to be their best work yet.

Baldur's Gate 3 Adding Major Updates with Patch 7

Darker, More Sinister Endings Up Ahead

In a recent announcement on Steam, Larian Studio shared details about the upcoming Patch 7, along with glimpses of the new darker endings. "We’re working on our next game update, Patch 7, which will add improved evil endings to the game for even darker conclusions to your most sinister playthroughs," Larian said in the announcement.

The post teased two new endings containing extended cutscenes. Accompanying these teasers is a short preview of a haunting musical score composed by Borislav Slavov. The track featured an orchestral cascading of strings, chorale, and brass winds, all crescendoing to sound out a brutal, impending doom.

As for what the teasers entail, first we must preface this with:

The first teaser is a brief visual of Tav, in their true Absolute state, terrorizing a crowd of Baldurians with their newly-acquired godlike psionic ability after dominating the Netherbrain in Act 3. The second teaser showed the default Dark Urge/Durge walk across a land of bodies on bodies on bodies on bodies—dead bodies with a backdrop of a bloodbath and a black sun.

Moreover, Larian promised that Patch 7 will also address several bugs reported by players. Fixes include resolving issues with character behavior and dialogue inconsistencies, among others. Additionally, Patch 7 will introduce BG3's official modding tools that will let players "change up visuals, animations, sounds, stats, and more to overhaul Baldur’s Gate 3 into the weird nightmare realm of your dreams."

Crossplay and Photo Mode were also confirmed to be in the works, although these features may take some time to implement fully. "[T]he work required to bring these to you means that these additions will likely be further down the road," said the studio.

Two New Projects Will be Their Best Works Yet

Following up on their announcement of stepping away from developing newer Baldur's Gate titles, Larian Studios recently confirmed two new projects currently in development. The studio looks to maintain its status as the 'excellence of execution' in the gaming world, promising big and ambitious undertakings that build on the studio's reputation.

"Being given the chance to develop a game set in the Dungeons & Dragons universe has been a dream come true for all of us," Larian expressed at the end of the Steam post. "But as Swen recently confirmed, we won't be introducing any major new narrative content to the story of Baldur's Gate 3 or its origin characters and companions, nor will we be making expansions or Baldur’s Gate 4."

While further details about these new projects were not disclosed, studio founder Swen Vincke confidently and excitedly stated, "looking at our narrative, visual and gameplay plans, I think what we're working on now will be our best work ever."
