Balatro Gameplay Update Coming Sometime in 2025

LocalThunk and PlayStack's hit deck-building roguelike, Balataro, is now available on Google Play, App Store, and Apple Arcade. This follows an announcement from the devs revealing that Balatro’s first major gameplay update will arrive sometime in 2025. The major update will also be free, the Balatro team confirmed previously in their announcement: "This update will bring new ideas and strategies to the game and as a token of huge appreciation to the game’s brilliant and passionate community, the update will be completely free."

Balatro became a fan-favorite following its release on February 20 earlier this year. Lauded for its originality and fresh twist on the deck-building genre, the poker-solitaire-inspired game currently sits at an overwhelming 97.45% Positive rating on Steam, and has earned the Must-Play badge on review site Metacritic.

Leading up to next year's big update, developer LocalThunk said that the revamp Balatro will go through would sit right well with fans who have fallen in love with its gameplay loop. "It won’t be fundamentally different," LocalThunk told Polygon in an interview. "You’re still going to be playing Balatro. I don’t want this game to be two games, and just one day it switches [over]." He continued, "Definitely, I’m thinking more about filling out the design space that currently exists, and then extending that design space in interesting directions that I think people are going to love."

Balatro is available to be purchased for $9.99 on Google Play and the App Store. On the other hand, Apple Arcade members can download and play Balatro for free starting today!
