This week, some players of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey reported encountering Black Friday pop-up ads promoting Assassin’s Creed Mirage during gameplay. AC players shared their experiences on Reddit, noting that the ads appeared on both Xbox and PlayStation versions of the game, particularly when navigating to the map screen.

Reactions from the community were notably negative, with sentiments reflecting strong disapproval of pop-up ads disrupting the gaming experience. One user on Reddit succinctly stated, "yeah, this kind of **** should be considered unacceptable."

In-Game Pop-Up Ads Now Fixed

Ubisoft and the AC team clarified the situation. According to a post on X (fka Twitter), their intention was to showcase an ad for Assassin’s Creed Mirage in the main menu of other Assassin’s Creed games. However, a "technical error" led to the ad appearing in in-game menus instead.

The official statement read, “Unfortunately, this technical error caused the promotion to appear in one of our in-game menus instead. We want to ensure the best player experience possible, and these disruptive pop-ups were promptly removed once we learned of the issue.” The publisher assured players that the issue had been identified and subsequently resolved.
