The Apex Legends and FF7 Rebirth collaboration event has had its details revealed! It will feature tons of FF7 cosmetics, Materia Hop-ups, and a wieldable Buster Sword! Read on to learn more.
FF7 Rebirth Is Coming to Apex Legends
Apex Legends Final Fantasy Event From January 9 to January 30, 2024
Apex Legends’ next upcoming event is a surprise crossover with the critically acclaimed Final Fantasy 7(FF7) remake series. The remake’s second installment, FF7 Rebirth, is soon to hit the shelves this coming February 29, 2024. To celebrate the momentous occasion, they will have a special limited time event in Apex Legends which will last from January 9 to January 30, 2024.
This marks the first game collaboration for the battle royale, and it astonished fans everywhere when it was revealed during The Game Awards last December 7, 2023.
Apex Legends Final Fantasy Cosmetics
The initial announcement showcased the main three cosmetics in Cloud, Aerith, and Tifa, but the newest trailer reveals all characters joining the fray.

● Valkyrie as Yuffie Kisaragi

There are notable absences from other FF7 characters, such as Red XIII, Cait Sith, Cid Highwind, Vincent Valentine, Zack Fair, and even the ever iconic villain Sephiroth. It’s most likely the Apex Legends team prioritized the playable characters for the upcoming FF7 Rebirth.
We can’t help but imagine which Apex Legends characters could don the remaining absent FF7 characters though. Revenant could’ve been either Red XIII or Vincent Valentine, while Seer could have also been apt for the latter. Vantage would’ve been cute as Cait Sith, with her dressed up as the doll, and her bat as Cait Sith himself. Fuse might’ve made for a great Cid Highwind with their bearded similarities. Zack Fair could’ve been assigned to Mirage for their bubbly personalities. Lastly, just for the humor of it, Pathfinder as Sephiroth. Imagine that.
FF7 Buster Sword R2R5
Contrary to what was previously theorized by fans (and ourselves) as an Heirloom that would’ve exclusive to the character Crypto, the Buster Sword (dubbed as the Buster Sword R2R5 for the battle royale) will actually be a universal weapon that can be used for all.
Equipping the weapon will allow players to perform light and heavy melee attacks with the sword, as well blocking and dashing to reduce damage taken and to maneuver respectively. A key feature of the blade will be the Limit Gauge, which will fill up faster by dealing, taking, and blocking any damage. Once the gauge is full, players will be able to perform a brief Omnislash Limit Break, reminiscent of FF7 protagonist Cloud Strife’s ultimate Limit Break move.
FF7 Materia Hop-Ups
Last but not least, the FF7 Event allows for more chaos in the battlefield with the addition of Materia Hop-Ups! Hop-Ups are mini-weapon attachments that modify the equipped weapon’s stats or special features. FF7 Materia Hop-Ups bring more special variety into play with the arrival of several unique gameplay features for the battle royale. Refer to the table below for the corresponding Materia Color and their ability.

FF7 Rebirth Event Gil Shop
Lastly, the event will have a special shop with a special currency called “Gil,” which is the money from the FF franchise. Earn Gil from playing and accomplishing challenges to unlock rewards and packages from the event. Rewards include all sorts of goodies such as gun cosmetics, profile badges, weapon charms, and even the aforementioned character cosmetics!
