Ufotable Brings Double Announcement for Tales of 30th Year & Witch on the Holy Night Movie
Anniversary Collab for Tales of Series
Ufotable, the critically acclaimed studio behind Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba and transmedia animations for the Tales of franchise, promises big projects in the year ahead. They recently dropped a trailer hinting at anniversary plans for Tales of and confirmed a 2026 movie premiere for the lauded visual novel, Witch on the Holy Night.
The 30-second trailer showcased flash frames and silhouettes of the different characters from Bandai Namco's action RPG titles Tales of Arise, Tales of Berseria, Tales of Xillia, Tales of Xillia 2, Tales of Zestiria, and Tales of Symphonia, most of which are recently remastered on modern platforms and are projects Ufotable has had a hand in. Notably, the only game missing in the video that Ufotable has worked on is Tales of Graces f.
Neither Bandai Namco nor ufotable has yet shared whether the 30th anniversary celebration will take the form of a new game, anime, mini-series, or short original animation. However, at the end of the trailer, the words "Next Information Reveal: 4.3" are shown. Similarly, Tales of series producer Yusuke Tomizawa assured fans in an X (formerly Twitter) post that more details will be revealed on April 3.
The Tales of series celebrated its 30th anniversary on December 15, 2025, marking the launch of its first game, Tales of Phantasia, in 1995. Meanwhile, its long-term partnership with Ufotable began as early as 2007 with Tales of Symphonia: The Animation and eventually expanded to include animations and cutscenes for multiple Tales of games over the past two decades.
Witch on the Holy Night Hits Theaters This Year
Adding to the list of major announcements with Ufotable at the helm is the upcoming movie adaptation for Witch on the Holy Night (often referred to as "Mahoyo," short for its Japanese title, Mahōtsukai no Yoru), a 2012 visual novel developed by TYPE-MOON and written by Kinoko Nasu. Mahoyo is primarily a kinetic novel with little choice-based narrative branching, and is part of the larger "Nasuverse," which also contains the stories of Tsukihime, the Fate series, and The Garden of Sinners. The theatrical animation is slated for release in 2026, with no exact date or details about its international release outside of Japan confirmed yet.
The news was met with enthusiasm from the Mahoyo community, who immediately took to social media to share their excitement through comments and memes. Japanese and English fans alike are calling it "peak" and saying it will be worth the wait over the past four years since the movie was first announced in 2021.
Aside from Mahoyo, Ufotable has also recently teased other big-name titles in a promotional reel. Nonetheless, their "future projects" are still in production and are unlikely to be released this year.
These included Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle Part 2, the second film in an ongoing trilogy; an anime for the miHoYo open-world action RPG Genshin Impact, which was first announced in 2022; and a movie for the online web browser game Touken Ranbu, whose anime aired in 2017.
Mahoyo Playable on PC, PS4, and Switch; Tales of Berseria Remastered Releases Feb 27
Witch on the Holy Night is currently available on PC (Windows) via Steam, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. It is a prequel to Tsukihime, set in the late 1980s.
Meanwhile, although the Tales of franchise has several games across newer-generation platforms, a title currently very close to launch is Tales of Berseria Remastered, an enhanced version of the 2016 action JRPG. Following the events before Tales of Zestiria, the game features the heroine Velvet Crowe as she seeks vengeance for her brother's death.
Tales of Berseria Remastered will arrive on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam on February 27, 2026. For more information about the game, check out our article below!
