Up to $2 Billion Net Bookings in the First 3 Years
Since purchasing Titanfall developer Respawn in 2017, Electronic Arts (EA) has experienced a boom in sales. EA CEO Andrew Wilson has praised the studio for its work on games like Apex Legends and the Star Wars Jedi trilogy, and he anticipates even more incredible accomplishments from Respawn soon. The agreement, which had a potential value of $455 million in 2017, has proven to be a profitable investment, especially given that Apex Legends alone generated over $2 billion in net bookings in the first three years following its debut in February 2019. Net bookings is the total amount of the products and services that were sold sold-in physically or digitally. This includes licensing fees, merchandise, in-game advertising, strategy guides and publisher incentives.
Star Wars Games and New IP Research
CEO Wilson hinted at interesting Respawn projects that have yet to be made public. He enthusiastically praised the studio's impressive track record and said that this innovative team has much more to come.
In an interview with Axios, Respawn's head, Vince Zampella, stated that the studio is working on two more Star Wars titles. One is a strategy game created with the recently founded Bit Reactor studio. At the same time, a first-person shooter is being developed internally. These initiatives promise to improve the Star Wars gaming experience even more.
While Respawn is not actively developing a sequel to the renowned Titanfall franchise, game director Steve Fukuda manages a specialized team within Respawn whose objective it is to experience the thrill of discovering something completely new. This project demonstrates Respawn's commitment to innovation and desire to break down barriers.
Revitalizing Battlefield: Zampella's Vision
Revising EA's Battlefield franchise is one of Zampella's primary goals. Zampella hopes to take the series to new heights by working with former Call of Duty executive Byron Beede and a rejuvenated group of studios. Zampella doesn't see Battlefield as a direct rival to Call of Duty. Instead, he sees it as a unique experience emphasizing the value of team play and unforgettable, distinct Battlefield events.
While specifics are being kept under wraps, Zampella made statements about the enormous potential that the Battlefield universe holds. This venerable franchise is assured to have a bright future thanks to the interdisciplinary work of a committed team and the innovative viewpoints provided by seasoned professionals like Beede.
