PlayStation Subscriptions Price Hike
New Pricing Structure for PlayStation Plus 12-Month Subscriptions
Beginning September 6, PlayStation will raise the price of its 12-month PlayStation Plus subscriptions globally across all benefit plans.
Here's a breakdown of the new PlayStation Plus 12-month subscription pricing, which caters to different levels of gamers:
12-Month Subscription | New Rates |
---|---|
PlayStation Plus Essential | 79.99 USD |
71,99 Euro | |
59.99 GBP | |
6,800 Yen | |
PlayStation Plus Extra | 134.99 USD |
125,99 Euro | |
99.99 GBP | |
11,700 Yen | |
PlayStation Plus Premium | 159.99 USD |
151,99 Euro | |
119.99 GBP | |
13,900 Yen |
It's important to note that, despite the price change, 12-month membership options will still be less expensive than buying 1- or 3-month subscriptions over the course of a year. Players will save anywhere between $20 to $55 a year, depending on the plan, while also getting the advantages of a longer-term subscription.
Changes for Current Subscribers
Existing 12-month customers will see the price rise reflected in their bills by their next renewal date or after November 6. Note that the new pricing structure will apply to any changes to your membership, including downgrades, upgrades, and the purchase of additional subscription time, made on or after September 6. Members are able to change or cancel their subscriptions anytime.
Current PlayStation subscribers will get an email notifying them of these changes. Sony will soon post more detailed information on their official website to ensure players have all the information they need to make informed choices about their PlayStation Plus memberships.
Players Not Amused With the Price Hike
On the official PlayStation Blog, players have voiced their concerns, highlighting a perceived mismatch between the subscription cost and the offerings provided by the company.
Many gamers argue that the current PlayStation Plus content needs to justify the higher price tag.
If Sony intends to charge more, they should consider enriching their Classic catalog by introducing more enticing elements. This includes expanding the library with additional PS2 games, bringing back beloved PS Vita titles, offering natively emulated PS3 games, and exploring collaborations with third-party developers to diversify the gaming experience.
