Super Mario Bros Wonder Direct Announcements
15 Minutes Full of New Details
Nintendo just dropped its Super Mario Bros Wonder Direct with 15 minutes loaded to the brim with details about Super Mario Bros Wonder. The livestream revealed its plot, new features, maps, new playable characters, new enemies, badges, power ups and more. We’ll go over them lightly here, but for detailed information, check out our Everything We Know So Far page!
Super Mario Bros Wonder Plot
Mario and friends are invited to the Flower Kingdom by Prince Florian. However, Bowser, the King of the Koopas, wants to get the power of the Wonder Flower. By obtaining the power of the Wonder Flower, Bowser fuses with Prince Florian's castle and wreaks havoc on the Flower Kingdom. It is up to Mario and friends to save the Flower Kingdom from Bowser.
Following suit from all the older Mario games, it's no surprise that the villain for Super Mario Bros Wonder will be Bowser.
Super Mario Bros Wonder Map
The Flower Kingdom is a new setting surrounded by 6 distinct worlds, adding up to7 different areas to explore. In this new Kingdom, players can move around the map as they’d like and select a course to play in any order they like.
Super Mario Bros Wonder Characters and Enemies
Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Toad, and Toadette are all playable in this game. New enemies like Hoppycats, Melon Piranha Plants, and Condrats will join in the attack against Mario alongside the classic enemies like Goombas and Koopa Troopas. The courses also have talking flowers (with actual voice overs!) that give hints or coins.
Super Mario Bros Wonder New Power-ups
There are a slew of newly announced power-ups, including the now-viral Elephant form, the Bubble and Drill forms, with the classic Fire form returning. The Wonder Flower is also a power-up native to the Flower Kingdom that releases a strange power that changes the course unexpectedly.
Super Mario Bros Wonder Badges
Badges are new in-game items that give players special equippable abilities. Players can collect badges such as parachute caps, wall-climb caps, dolphin kick, grappling vine, sensor magnet, invisibility, and jet run. However, players can only equip one badge per course.
Super Mario Bros Wonder Multiplayer
Local Co-op is supported by up to 4 players. Online play is also supported. Players will be able to see the “shadows” of other players in the course, showing other people who are playing in real-time They’ll be able to share game items and place standees in a course to help other players.
With online play, players can create rooms with friends and invite them to join. They can race against friends or complete an objective to win.
Something called Heart points can also be collected when a player helps other players online. It’s unclear whether you’ll be able to use those Heart points for something, or if it’s just there to show off what a good, helpful person you are.
