Elden Ring Player Decides To Take On Messmer Everyday

New Weapon, No Hits, Same Boss

One motivated Elden Ring fan has decided to not just sit around patiently waiting for the release of its spin-off co-op title, Elden Ring: Nightreign. The fan turned the waiting game into an actual gaming marathon by challenging himself to defeat the notoriously difficult boss, Messmer, every single day, using different weapons each time and with no hits, while on NG+7.

The player and YouTuber known as chickensandwich420 on his channel has been posting this Messmer challenge since December 16, 2024. In his day 1 video, he shared that he was planning to do different bosses from FromSoftware’s titles, but he’s currently a senior at university and he doesn’t "want to spend time grinding bosses instead of doing work."

Messmer the Impaler is the second antagonist and boss from Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC known for his intense difficulty, with players sharing that it’s taken them from 30 to over 150 attempts to clear his battle even at the highest levels and equipped with the best weapons and armor. Hence, chickensandwich420’s challenge is definitely one monumental task.

However, there seems to be a little caveat—he has given himself (and to some extent, FromSoft) a deadline of June, saying that if Nightreign doesn’t come out by then, he’ll branch out to other games. That will be just a little over 160 days of battling Messmer. As of writing, he’s on day 23.

Elden Ring: Nightreign is set to be the newest game bearing the Elden Ring name, and is set in the same universe. However, it is a spin-off title and a standalone adventure made for a three-player co-op experience. Based on its announcement at The Game Awards 2024, it’s slated for a 2025 release—but FromSoftware is known for taking quite a bit with their games. Only time will tell whether or not chickensandwich420 will be able to get his wish with Nightreign’s release, or will a delayed launch be the end of his Messmer feat.
