System Shock Clarifies Usage of AI Art
AI Art Used For 'Meta' Post
System Shock Twitter cleared up its use of AI art in an earlier tweet that upset some fans. They explained that their objective was to have an actual AI make art of the game's antagonist, the rogue AI Shodan, as a 'meta' post. Not to offend or steal from the artistic community.
Earlier, the System Shock Twitter received backlash from fans who believed AI-generated artwork was art taken from artists' websites without permission or acknowledgment and was a case of art theft.
The System Shock Twitter added that they would use AI again to create other pieces, including artwork, as well as use it in other areas. However, they also mentioned that AI would not be used at the expense of skilled people or creative talents.
Despite this, several Twitter users still called them out for being comfortable with exploitation and using unethical means, speculating that AI might have also been used in creating the System Shock remake.
System Shock May Lose Sales For AI Art Stunt
Though other fans recognized the reference and appreciated the effort, many others were outraged due to the belief that using AI would result in artwork that did not compensate artists whose work was used to train the algorithms.
Following the controversial tweet, several Twitter users expressed their intention to either refund their pre-orders, remove the game from their wishlists, or dump the series altogether.
This may sound like a collective boo for one of the hotly anticipated games on Steam. System Shock is the 48th most wish-listed game on the platform, with more than 70,000 followers according to SteamDB.
