Top 5 Picks for the Next 7-Star Tera Raid Boss in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet (SV)

Image

So far the majority of the 7-Star Raid Bosses have been final evolutions of previous Starter Pokemon. Will the next Raid Boss be a Grass Type, or perhaps Typhlosion? Lets take a dive into the 5 most likely picks for the next 7-Star Raid!

Always a Starter Pokemon

As of writing, a variety of Types of Starter Pokemon have been used with 2 Fire Starters, 2 Water Starters and 1 Grass Starter. Pikachu is a bit of an exception here with the Electric Typing, though it was still a Starter Pokemon in Pokemon Yellow. Each Tera Type featured thus far has been different, and has had a strong move that the Raid Boss can use to take advantage of Tera STAB.

Tera Type Matches the Pokemon

The Tera Type that the Pokemon has also generally correlates with the Pokemon's appearance/behaviour, often being a Type which it seems like the Pokemon should have but doesn't, with some prime examples being Dragon Charizard (looks like a Dragon, but isn't a Dragon-type), Water Pikachu (Surfing Pikachu) and Flying Decidueye (a bird that isn't Flying-type).

Generation is Usually Unique

Additionally, the same generation has not been used twice (with the exception of Pikachu), with Generations 1, 5, 6, 7 and 8 all featuring thus far. Finally, 2 of the 3 Hisuian Counterpart Starters have been featured (Unovian Samurott and Alolan Decidueye), with just Johtonian Typhlosion yet to feature.

Likely Candidates for the Next 7-Star Raid Boss

A Grass Type Starter

SerperiorSerperior ChesnaughtChesnaught RillaboomRillaboom Pokemon SV MeowscaradaMeowscarada

As Grass has only been featured once compared to Fire and Water's two times a piece, a Grass Type Starter Pokemon may be a potential candidate for the next Tera Raid Boss. Of these Starter however, it is unlikely that Venusaur, Serperior, Chesnaught or Rillaboom will feature, as they have all had their generations' Pokemon featured already, while Meowscarada is unlikely to be featured as it is a current gen starter!

This leaves (pun-intended) just Meganium, Sceptile and Torterra as the potential upcoming 7-Star Raid Boss.

A Gen 2, 3 or 4 Starter Pokemon

As Gens 2, 3 and 4 are the only ones left out thus far, it is quite likely that one of these will be featured in the next 7-Star Raid. Of these, it would be quite likely to be Meganium, Sceptile or Torterra, as these are also Grass Type Starters. There is also a very real possibillity of Game Freak instead selecting the fan favorite Piplup's final evolution, Empoleon, or the Gen 2 Fire Starter, Typhlosion, for reasons which will be explored in the following points.

Featured? O O X

An interesting pattern has emerged in the last 2 Tera Raids. Starting with Decidueye, there appears to be a trend for the next 7-Star Raid Boss to have a Hisuian Form. If this trend is to continue, we can expect Typhlosion to be the next featured Raid Boss! This could also be the final 7-Star Raid Event before the Pokemon Home Compatibility update, in which we are expecting the Hisuian Pokemon, as well as all of the previous Starter Pokemon to be eligible for transfer to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet!

Top 5 Picks for the Next 7-Star Raid Boss

Last Place: Empoleon

Image
Arguably the most popular of all of our candidates, Piplup's final evolution, Empoleon makes the list as it is the most popular of the Gen 2~4 Pokemon which are yet to be featured in 7-Star Tera Raids! As it is not a Grass Type or have a Hisuian Counterpart it is featured in 5th place on our list. If it were to be featured, perhaps it would be given the Ice Type, fitting for a Penguin (they live in the snow), and allowing it to take advantage of its good Special Attack Stat and Ice move coverage with Ice Beam or Blizzard.

Runners-Up: Gen 2~4 Grass Type Starters

Image
Although we are due for a Grass Type Starter, giving us a different Type is not out of the question, as there is already a precedent for it. The first 2 Tera Raid Events in a row were Fire, and we had 4 7-Star Raid Events before finally having the first Grass Type featured. Having said that, Meganium, Sceptile and Torterra are all very possible candidates for the next 7-Star Raid! If they were to be featured, perhaps their Tera Types would be: Ground for Meganium to strengthen its Earthquake and counter Fire Types, Rock for Sceptile to counter Fire and Flying Types with Rock Tomb or Rock Slide, and Steel for Torterra to counter Flying Types defensively and Ice Types offensively with Iron Tail.

Most Likely to Feature in next 7-Star Tera Raid: Typhlosion!

Image
Typhlosion is the most likely Pokemon to feature in the next 7-Star Tera Raid. This is for a multiple of reasons, including the fact that Gen 2 is yet to be represented, it is the last Hisuian Counterpart to be featured and the previous 2 raids being Grass and then Water. It is also possible that upon the conclusion of Typhlosion's 7-Star Raid, Pokemon Home compatibility launches, with compatibility for all of the Hisuian Pokemon! If Typhlosion features in the next 7-Star Raid, it will likely have a Grass Tera Type. With Sunny Day as an additional free move at the beginning of the raid and powerful Fire Type moves in addition to 1-Turn Solar Beams, Typhlosion will likely be a difficult adversary!
