Diablo 4 to Release on Steam October 17 Just in Time for Season of Blood
Diablo IV Expands Its Realm
Diablo IV will be available on Steam on October 17, 2023. Players can then immediately enjoy cross-progression and cross-platform multiplayer on its existing platforms, including Battle.net, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4. This Steam launch coincides with the release of Season of Blood featuring a new Questline, Vampiric Powers, additional endgame bosses, and more.
In addition, Steam users will be able to enjoy platform-specific features such as Steam achievements, friends list, integrations, and in-game invites.
New Season of Blood Unleashes Vampiric Powers
The Season of Blood in Diablo IV brings a menacing new chapter to Sanctuary. The Dark Master's Blood Seekers emerge from the shadows, ready to feast on unsuspecting mortals. This thrilling season kicks off on October 17, featuring a host of chilling additions.
A new vampire hunting quest line with the skilled vampire hunter Erys will be available. Players can investigate vampire-related murders and uncover a sinister plot orchestrated by the Dark Master. In addition, players can also harness the forbidden art of Vampiric Powers to combat monstrous adversaries. Acquire Potent Blood from fallen foes and spend it to unlock or upgrade these potent abilities.
Last but not least, there will be new Uber Endgame bosses to farm. These challenging but rewarding encounters can drop unique items and cosmetics.
A Turning Point for Diablo 4?
Diablo 4 was hailed as one of the best game releases earlier this year with critics commenting that it has a good amount of content. However, the Season of the Malignant update proved to be challenging for Blizzard and lackluster, if not just terrible for players.
While Blizzard does not show concurrent players on their Battle.net platform, Diablo 4 has seen a steady decline in its player base. Reddit user UsualInitial points out a loss of 98.7% in Diablo 4’s viewership and massive loss of interest since launch. Meanwhile, Twitch viewership drops to around 4000 average viewers from its peak of 26,107 viewers earlier this year.
With the earlier devstream and the upcoming release of Season of Blood, players are hopeful that Blizzard will address issues related to balancing, stash, and endgame loop.
