SAG-AFTRA and video game producers released a joint statement stating no deals have been reached. Involved parties vow to make final efforts to reach a deal.
No Agreement on Renegotiating SAG-AFTRA Contract
A joint statement from SAG-AFTRA and the video game producers from September 28 confirmed that the discussions have ended with no deal. The current contract remains in effect for an indeterminable time until the parties conclude final efforts and agreements.
"SAG-AFTRA and video game employers concluded scheduled negotiations for the Interactive Media Agreement. No deal was reached and the current agreement will remain in effect while the parties make final efforts to reach a deal," the joint statement read.
Earlier in September, the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) had voted to authorize a strike against ten major video game producers. The vote received an overwhelming 98.32% in favor of the strike authorization.
These game producers were: Activision Productions Inc, Blindlight LLC, Disney Character Voices Inc, Electronic Arts Productions Inc, Formosa Interactive LLC, Insomniac Games Inc, Epic Games, Take 2 Productions Inc, VoiceWorks Productions Inc, and WB Games Inc.
On September 26-28, 2023, sessions were held to renegotiate the terms in the Interactive Media Agreement that binds game companies hiring SAG-AFTRA members. The key issues the guild wanted addressed were wages, occupation safety, and the use of AI.
