A Fusion of Creativity: Pokémon Meets Van Gogh
The Pokémon Company International has joined forces with the renowned Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam for a unique and exciting art collaboration. From September 28th to January 7th, 2024, visitors will have the opportunity to see iconic Pokemon like Pikachu, Eevee, and Snorlax reimagined in the world of Vincent van Gogh. This groundbreaking partnership celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Van Gogh Museum and aims to introduce a new generation to the timeless works of the Dutch master.
Emilie Gordenker, General Director of the Van Gogh Museum, expressed her enthusiasm for this collaboration, stating that it will provide a refreshing and educational experience for children and art enthusiasts alike.
Pokémon at the Van Gogh Museum
The first floor of the Rietveld building will host a special presentation where you can admire six paintings inspired by Vincent van Gogh’s masterpieces. Witness Pikachu in a piece inspired by “Self-portrait with Grey Felt Hat,” Snorlax and Munchlax lounging in a work reminiscent of “The Bedroom,” and more.
Pokémon Adventure Activities and Online Learning
For visitors aged 6 and above, a Pokémon Adventure leaflet will lead you on a journey through the museum, allowing you to explore the stories behind the paintings that inspired the Pokémon artwork. Complete the adventure, and you can receive a special Pikachu x Van Gogh Museum promo card (subject to availability).
This collaboration will also include online learning tools that will let students discover the connection between Van Gogh and Japan, showing how inspiration flows in both directions. These teaching materials are suitable for upper primary and lower secondary education levels and are available in both Dutch and English.
