Cuphead Anniversary Update
Xbox To Receive Tons of Free Content on September 29, 2023
Studio MDHR announced on Twitter (X) that a free anniversary update will be coming to Xbox on September 29, 2023. The gesture serves as a "Thank you" towards the Xbox community, as they spoke about them being "among the first community to embrace Cuphead with open arms." Cuphead was initially self-funded but was later backed and financed by Microsoft. The game was released on Microsoft and Xbox platforms as a timed exclusive.
The free update includes multitudes of extra content that includes never-before seen concept art, unreleased behind-the-scenes videos, a music player, and other goodies they have yet to reveal.
Update Comes Just a Year After Delayed DLC
This anniversary update comes over a year after the release of the game’s sole DLC, "The Delicious Last Course." The expansion was heavily anticipated for several years, initially announced in 2018. It faced multiple delays until it finally came out in 2022 to critical acclaim. The DLC featured an entirely new island, several new bosses, and a new playable character.
What is Cuphead?
Cuphead is a 2D run-n-gun side scroller featuring art and animation inspired by old rubber hose animated cartoons. Developed by Studio MDHR, it reached massive success because of its unique artstyle and notorious difficulty. The game stars Cuphead and his brother Mugman as they get tricked in the Devil’s Casino, betting their souls in a game and ending up losing. They strike a deal to become debt collectors, in which they must follow the Devil’s orders and collect the Soul Contracts of others who also owe the Devil. The two brothers must now embark across three isles to battle debtors and collect their souls in order to not lose their own.
